MARCHITECTURE 2025 WINNER

Tiny bit late on this, buuuuuut the judging is now complete! And WOW, y'all made some incredible articles, it was incredibly hard to make the decision!

In the end, myself and 5 other recent Architecture graduates looked at the work. We judged them based on 5 categories -- Concept/Originality, Aesthetics/Art, Architecture, Overall Writing, and then Overall Personal Opinion. The work was all fantastic, but as this was a judged competition, there can be only one winner.

And the winner is....

Kitoypoy with the Tangled Hollow!!

Tangled Hollow
Building / Landmark | May 12, 2025

The most heavily populated district of The Tortoise is Scute 12, commonly known as the Tangled Hollow.

We all REALLY loved this article. The concept was really strong and unique, there was a great precedent in the Kowloon Walled City, and it was a joy to read through. Well done Kitoypoy, it was an absolute pleasure to read the work!

And well done to everyone that participated as well, I hope everyone really enjoyed writing these articles and thinking through the architecture in this way. It was all incredibly inspiring to read <3

I will be going through and leaving badges in the comments for all entries in the next bit!

Last week for Marchitecture!

We're up to 8 competition entries, and 3 participation entries, and I am so happy and excited to see all the lovely work :D Thank you to everyone joining in so far, and to everyone else thinking about joining in, or working on their own submission still, you still have a full 7 days left! Plenty of time :D Take a look at some of the fantastic entries and gain that lovely architectural inspiration through exploring their articles as precedent!

Welcome to the 2025 version of my unofficial challenge (or competition in this case)! This one is all about architectural renovation. Tell us about a pre-existing building in your world that was renovated or remodeled in modern or current times.

Still one week left to earn a lovely participation badge, or compete to win the winners badge version >:D

(Side note, how do you make columns in this editor? Sure would be nice to put these two badge images beside each other...)

(side note V2, wouldn't it be cool if I could grant these badges via WA's stickers? I wonder if there's a good feature-request idea there)

Halfway through Marchitecture

I hope everyone has been having a fantastic March! Mine has been incredibly busy, super hyper focused on Architecture as well. I even managed to get my own little Marchitecture article done, as a "participation entry"! This serves as an example and reminder that you can break the rules in order to gain just a participation badge, the rules only exist for people competing to win :D

Speaking of which, we have 4 competition entries already! From my brief skim they look to be EXCELLENT articles, and everyone should be really proud of them :D I can't wait to dive into them in April and explore these lovely spaces and places that everyone has built.

If you are participating, or want to participate, don't forget to share your articles here with #marchitecture or #marchitecture2025 as a hashtag! And all entries (both participation and competition) can be found on the Challenge page itself :D

Marchitecture 2025 is live! What story does your building tell?

Over the course of March, join us in this unofficial competition about breathing new life into old buildings. So many buildings see so many people and so many stories pass through them over the ages, changing owners, and often times entirely changing programmed use. Think about what once was, why and how the owners and designers decided to renovate it, and what might be.

Tell us about a pre-existing building in your world that was renovated or remodeled in modern or current times.

Welcome to the 2025 version of my unofficial challenge (or competition in this case)! This one is all about architectural renovation. Tell us about a pre-existing building in your world that was renovated or remodeled in modern or current times.

Buildings are with us for our entire lives -- we spend the vast majority of our time within them. They are our protectors, our story keepers, and our homes. They provide us shelter, and they also provide us beauty. They age, they die, and sometimes, like in this specific case, they are granted another chance at living.

What story might your building tell?

What's your favourite example of a renovated building?

Don't forget, if you participate, you win a badge :D And, if you win, you get the winners badge! Make sure to share your entries with #Marchitecture or #Marchitecture2025 and #unofficialchallenge

World Building and Art Stream

Today I'll be working on a armband design for Talitha Harbor's Council of Thirteen (which I still need an article on, though they get a mention here, and a few other places, Vocational Government System ).

Streaming from 3 PM EST to 6 PM EST, or maybe longer depending on how things go.

https://www.twitch.tv/desdemona_rose

After that it's room design. Got to pick a floor. I am going to use #Marchitecture2025 as motivation to finally write an article for a building the Talithan's call a Fortress (against weather and originally the planet's wildlife). It's part of the original spaceship they flew in on, but with several modifications over time. Especially since it's nearly 1000 sol cycles old at this point. I started a drawing of one tiny piece of it, a desk for one of my Councillors and the space he works in.

Stormwatch Forecast: Marchitecture closing!

WOW 30 ENTRIES   That's honestly way more than I had ever expected! That's actually over double the amount from last year, and I could not be happier <3 Thank you so much to everyone who participated! You can scroll the #Marchitecture hashtag, or view all Context and Architecture articles in one place right... here!

Pick (or create!) a context article within your world, and then write a building article that accompanies/responds to/resonates with that context. Create building articles that fit your world perfectly!

In personal news, I am in the thick of it for my own architecture right now -- the end of the semester is fast approaching and I am almost through the hardest semester in my entire Masters. Two-ish weeks to go!   In the brief moments of reprieve I've been doing some doodling for some God-husk redesigns, and also brainstorming and theorycrafting some future-Cathedris fun things like spaceships >:) I post about em over on my Discord Server, if you ever want to take a look!   Also the #WAWA2024 first round of voting is nearly complete, and omg there's so many fantastic entries to look at. If you haven't yet voted, that's okay, because there is a TON to go through! If you're still looking for some good entries, check out the shortlists and shared articles from people I've been seeing posted around these days -- they have a lot of great suggestions in there! And if you're STILL looking for some articles to consider, you can even take a look at my submissions if you like!   But anyways, I hope you had a fantastic March, and here's to an even better April <3   #Stormwatch #UnofficialChallenge

State of the Manifold - March 24 (Manifold Prompts Edition)

Howdy all,   Spring rains have finally come to bless my dusty little corner of the American west, and that means it’s time, once again, for the monthly State of the Manifold article. I’ve been busy this month, so let’s get into the updates straight away!   March saw the creation of the #UnofficialChallenge challenge, and, while I had hoped to participate in more of them, I did manage to complete two submissions as of the time of this posting. I took an unconventional approach to Stormbril’s #Marchitecture challenge and submitted an article about an orbital cycler; after all, in space, the difference between a stationary and a moving object is a matter of frame of reference, no? For Jester%’s #OccupationalMarch challenge, I broke with my usual tradition of BCGR-based or system-agnostic writing and posted an article about a custom D&D class I cooked up all the way back in the dim antediluvian epochs of 2014. This former article is definitely worth a look if you’re a tabletop roleplayer because it contains playable stats in not one, but two, different roleplaying systems. Come check them out:     Another thing I did over the course of March was make my submissions for your consideration in the World Anvil Worldbuilding Awards. I don’t have a compiled #WAWA2024 list as such, but these submissions are all up on the WA blog page for the contest. I encourage you to go and have a look at what everyone has submitted because there’s a lot of good stuff out there. And hey, if you see a few Manifold Sky or Sealed Kingdoms articles that strike your fancy, stop on by and consider dropping a like or a vote my way!

In other news, the annual #AdventureApril challenge is nearly here. I always enjoy Adventure April because, aside from eliciting some of what I consider to be my best work here, it means that WA suddenly blooms with scores of high-quality articles with interactive content, from basic TTRPG adventures to chose-your-own-adventure ‘mazes’ with varying levels of custom CSS. I’m already marinating a couple of ideas for a challenge article that may or may not be inspired by a recent revisit to Rollercoaster Tycoon 2, but we’ll see how that turns out. Here’s a couple of past submissions I’m particularly proud of:     Anyways, that’s all for now. I look forward to seeing what next month brings. Let me know what you think, and good luck on your creative endeavors as we enter the home stretch on all these writing challenges - both official and otherwise. Onwards!   Regards, BCGR_Wurth

Unofficial Challenges

I love the idea of letting folks make up their own challenges, so I'm taking part in a few. The first is #Marchitecture. This is my context, required for the challenge:
Whispers of the Flesh Trees
Spell | Jun 9, 2024
And this is the building I made:
Spelltesting Hall
Building / Landmark | Jun 9, 2024
The second I chose to take part in is #MagicMarch. For this one, I decided to revamp an ancient article I originally created using a different format back in 2018. Rewriting this one was really fun. If you want to take a look, here it is:
Twollig Regeneration
Spell | Jun 9, 2024
I'm also taking part in Adventures in Romance. (#ChooseRomance2024) Of course, I couldn't help but put a darker twist on the challenge. Here's what I wrote for this one:
Virandir's Wandering Eyes
Myth | Jun 9, 2024
To be honest, even though writing the articles and trying to follow the guidelines has been really fun, sharing my work has been difficult. I have extremely low self esteem when it comes to my creative stuff, whether that be my drawings or my writing. I want to get better about this, though, so I'm testing the limits of my comfort zone and putting my writing out there for the world to see.   I hope to participate in a few more unofficial challenges while they're still active. There are so many creative and fun-looking ones out there, I can't wait to get started on a few more!   #UnofficialChallenge

#Marchitecture half way point!

We are now just over halfway through March, and it's been an exciting one so far! The buildings are being built and the context is being showcase and the participation in #Marchitecture has been amazing already. We're at 10 entries already! Each one of them are linked and displayed in the overview article, if you're looking for inspiration, please go and enjoy!

If you've already completed your article, or you're still working on your building, don't forget to share it via global post with the hashtag #Marchitecture so that we can get those wonderful structures shared around and collected for more to see >:D

In other, smaller, #Stormwatch specific news -- I've finished polishing my articles for the WAWA! A few articles of mine had huge overhauls (Like Anabelle, Days of Creation, and Cult of the Mind), and you might have seen the notifications pushed for that. I'm so happy with where they're at now, and hope you enjoy!

Royal Palace of Katrapetch - #Marchitecture

I have a new article this month, which is all about the Royal Palace of Katrapetch in the city of Katrapetch on the world of Magicians' End within my Discontinuum multiverse. The palace will be one important setting within a longer piece of writing I'm working on for the history of the city and the world and it's also a little something for the #Marchitecture #unofficialchallenge.

#Marchitecture is live!

The unofficial architecture challenge has begun :D Pick your context, write your building, and showcase it to the community with #Marchitecture so that all may see!
There's a fancy un-official badge in it for you too :D

And don't forget to post them on the Marchitecture article so that I can list them there as well >:D
