My Adventure April Heist is done

At least mostly done... Its a big one at over 8K words, and the culmination of the first act of my Talon's Rising campaign I've been very slowly working on for a while now.

The Goblins bring the fight to Lord Akron's stronghold as they undertake a daring raid to retrieve the holy symbol of their people.

Another Page and Ideas

Good day to everyone! Dawnmaster Smithy here, bringing another update from the wastes of Vasara. Life certainly has a way of keeping things interesting, so I haven't been able to do much with this project of mine. However, I do have a few things planned for the future! One of those plans has come to fruition tonight; I am pleased to present to you the newest entry to my world's short story repertoire, Witch Hunter!

Witch Hunter
Prose | Apr 28, 2024

Remember: always pack your cobalt and wits when facing a witch!

When I first started this section of my world, I thought it would go unused for quite some time. My inspirations have proved that thought wrong, and it is one of the few sections I've been writing for recently. It is a shame I could only submit one short story to the #AdventureApril challenge, but I don't mind too much. Regardless, I hope you all enjoy this entry to Death's Compendium on Temporal Affairs!
I do have one other thing in the works currently (something that isn't just an abstract idea), but I'll hold those cards close, for now at least ((I lied, its an article that will detail my setting's modern-day pantheon, but don't tell anybody I told you)). As always everyone, stay safe out there, and have a good one!
May the Fadelight illuminate your travels, friends.

Sharing my own entry for #AdventureApril 2024, and looking forward to reading the others. Welcome to Everny, all!

Dungeons and Dragons is only increasing in popularity, but the freedoms, sheer wealth of choice and the various different mechanics can be very intimidating and off putting to newcomers. Seeing a number of people in my local area ask about beginners sessions, I decided to put something together that's suitable for almost any age, and eases players into the ideas behind D&D, gently introducing game mechanics as they go.   Welcome to Everny

Almost late?

Well, after reading quite a few of the articles for the challenge this month, I was inspired to do the same. You know, just wishing I started this a little earlier, but I really wanted to lean into a few themes I have liked over the last few days. The amount of talent I have been seeing for this challenge is amazing! #AdventureApril
Come Join me as we walk through a ruin. Strange voices, shadows that lurk around the corners. Mysterious lost civilizations and the gods they worshipped. Are they still here, or are you imagining it?

State of the Manifold - April 2024 (Adventure April Edition)

Howdy all, and welcome to the State of the Manifold address for April. I’m primarily dropping this update early - at least, relative to my usual updates - because I want to get ahead on my New Year's Resolutions obligations, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t been a busy bee regardless. Let’s take a look!
The big thing going on this month is #AdventureApril, and, while my initial plans to post an adventure module fell through, I did still participate by submitting a prose article. The short story Derelict Over Sapfran is a snippet of a larger science fiction story that I’ve been procrastinating on for years now. Though it comes fairly late in the timeline, Derelict introduces a character, location, and plot point which will have a strong influence on the events of the third act. Check it out and let me know what you think:

I started April with some significant updates to one of the most important articles in the Manifold Sky setting - that is to say, the article for the Manifold itself. I’ve decided that, whenever I can’t find the inspiration to generate a new article in that setting, I should go back and revisit old articles and see where they need some touch-up; as the Manifold Sky was one of my first worlds on WA, there were often issues with formatting and not using the site’s features to good effect. You can see the new version of this article here:

In other news, most of my new creative output this month has been in my worlds other than the Manifold Sky. For whatever reason, inspiration has been coming to me more from either side of the fantasy/science fiction divide rather than directly atop it as would be required for writing about the Manifold. The articles stemming from the hex mage article in my New Generica world look to be developing into a new magic system for that setting - nearly a ‘splat book’ unto itself, if you remember what those releases for D&D 3.5 were like - though it was ostensibly originally designed to work with the BCGR roleplaying system rather than D&D. Other than that, I also worked on some supporting articles for the Sealed Kingdoms setting, as that’s where my Adventure April article comes from. Here’s a few examples of what I’ve been cooking up recently:

Anyways, that’s all for now. I hope you're all doing well in your own Adventure April efforts, and I'm looking forward to exploring what the community cooked up going forward into May.

Delving into the Frostcrest Caverns - My Entry

Finally finished a short story for the #AdventureApril challenge! Had a few ideas for story elements, and managed to combine a few into this prose. Hope you all enjoy it!

A short story from a yet-unexplored land!

In this month's spirit of adventure (and short story-writing), I've released a story for subscribers to read!
However, I can't go 100% public with the story because I'm waiting to see whether it get accepted for a magazine submission. For the time being, I've made it available to subscribers only, **but** anyone can subscribe to my world for free. You should have the option to subscribe if you click through to the story, or you can find the subscribe button on my world's homepage.
This piece is certainly a change of pace from what I've been writing, but often, different settings warrant such a change of pace, don't they? I hope y'all enjoy it regardless! Happy building and happy writing!

Set Sail on the Sea of Sorrows - My Entry!

Good day to everyone! Dawnmaster Smithy of the Fadelight here, rolling out another update (albeit a brief one!) from the wastes of Vasara! I hope everyone has been enjoying writing for Adventure April, because I sure have. In all honesty, this one hit me like a sack of wet bricks when it was announced; I knew what I had to do. Life has been interesting to say the least, so I'm just glad to have gotten this done in time. So, allow me to present: “Her Abyssal Melody”!

Her Abyssal Melody
Prose | Apr 10, 2024

My whole body thrummed with her divine resonance that day, and I knew then that she wasn't dead.

This has been one of my favorite articles/short stories to write thus far in my world-building journey here on World Anvil, along with being my longest one to boot. I hope you all enjoy this one as much as I did! That wraps up this update, though. Till' the next one, and as always,
May the Fadelight illuminate your travels, friends!

For Adventure April, a story that YOU can influence!

My submission for Adventure April is a not-so-short story in 4 episodes that I call community-driven. A new episode will be published each weekend, and during the week you, readers, will be able to influence the course of the story. Vote for what seems the most alluring or suggest your own way as you follow the struggles of a young boy stranded on a hostile planet. You may help Orian or put him in danger, and your collective choice matters!

State of the Manifold - March 24 (Manifold Prompts Edition)

Howdy all,   Spring rains have finally come to bless my dusty little corner of the American west, and that means it’s time, once again, for the monthly State of the Manifold article. I’ve been busy this month, so let’s get into the updates straight away!   March saw the creation of the #UnofficialChallenge challenge, and, while I had hoped to participate in more of them, I did manage to complete two submissions as of the time of this posting. I took an unconventional approach to Stormbril’s #Marchitecture challenge and submitted an article about an orbital cycler; after all, in space, the difference between a stationary and a moving object is a matter of frame of reference, no? For Jester%’s #OccupationalMarch challenge, I broke with my usual tradition of BCGR-based or system-agnostic writing and posted an article about a custom D&D class I cooked up all the way back in the dim antediluvian epochs of 2014. This former article is definitely worth a look if you’re a tabletop roleplayer because it contains playable stats in not one, but two, different roleplaying systems. Come check them out:     Another thing I did over the course of March was make my submissions for your consideration in the World Anvil Worldbuilding Awards. I don’t have a compiled #WAWA2024 list as such, but these submissions are all up on the WA blog page for the contest. I encourage you to go and have a look at what everyone has submitted because there’s a lot of good stuff out there. And hey, if you see a few Manifold Sky or Sealed Kingdoms articles that strike your fancy, stop on by and consider dropping a like or a vote my way!

In other news, the annual #AdventureApril challenge is nearly here. I always enjoy Adventure April because, aside from eliciting some of what I consider to be my best work here, it means that WA suddenly blooms with scores of high-quality articles with interactive content, from basic TTRPG adventures to chose-your-own-adventure ‘mazes’ with varying levels of custom CSS. I’m already marinating a couple of ideas for a challenge article that may or may not be inspired by a recent revisit to Rollercoaster Tycoon 2, but we’ll see how that turns out. Here’s a couple of past submissions I’m particularly proud of:     Anyways, that’s all for now. I look forward to seeing what next month brings. Let me know what you think, and good luck on your creative endeavors as we enter the home stretch on all these writing challenges - both official and otherwise. Onwards!   Regards, BCGR_Wurth

#TuesdayFiction and Game Time

"An undeniable switch set an oppressive mood over the forest. The uneasiness simple enough to brush away. But that underlying anxiety made moments harder. Something wrought in darkness hovered, a jaded lover, stoking need in everything." -Lavani   For Tuesday Fiction I wrote about Lavani's role behind the scenes in my #AdventureApril one-shot Return of Acgozluk. Check out the short story Calendula and Cats (1000 words - 5 minute read).   Join in by adding the hashtag #tuesdayfiction to a social media post. Worldbuilders and Writers get your stories out!

It's time for #TuesdayFiction on Twitter. Last week I tweeted about my #AdventureApril One-Shot. This week was about Daisy a chipmunk that thinks in Haiku (that's a thing right?). You could tweet about your River challenge entry or another story you have tackled! Use the #TuesdayFiction hashtag, any challenge hashtags, mention World Anvil, and wave to Daisy!

It's #TuesdayFiction! Chipmunks think in #haiku, yes?
