I can't thank y'all enough for participating in our #UnofficialChallenge! Entries close at midnight (Eastern Time) tonight (4/30/24), which means tomorrow starts May's reading binge so I can read closer and pick a few entries for feedback! There've been 6 more lovely additions (3 prose, 2 rituals, and a document!) since last time, so if you'd like to take a look at how others handle romance and relationship cultures in their worlds, have a look!
Don't forget to pick up your participation badges if you haven't done so already!

Shall we do this one again next year? Is anyone planning to expand their article further into their world as more unofficial challenges show up? (There's a food one AND a fashion one in May, sounds like romantically inclined adventures to me lol!) I'm definitely down to cheer on flourishing relationships and blossoming affection, as well as its cultural impacts, any time, any world! :D
May your worlds be ever-expanding and ready to surprise you at every turn,
Dani
So! How's April coming along? Making good progress on your worldbuilding? And then there is Adventure April. Did you give it a try? I think there is a little time left. Why not give it a shot?
Though, if that's not to your taste... there is another! #ChooseRomance2024 ! DaniAdventures has an unofficial challenge going and it's still open for a little while longer!
Once again, I grabbed my satchel and set out on the digital road to find some unexplored countries in the Anvilspace. As always, the Anvilspace didn't disappoint!
You've still got a whopping 5 days left if you'd like to submit an entry to the Adventures in Romance #UnofficialChallenge ! I've had an opportunity to read most of the entries so far and it's been an amazing journey. :D On May 1st, I look forward to diving in and giving 3-5 of the entries an in-depth set of feedback, so get yours in soon!
So far, there's been 12 amazing articles--12 worlds whose authors have added romantic tales and customs and each one proves that there are SO many ways to make this happen...just in this set alone we've got everything from prose to incorporating a fictional app to composing a beautiful ballad!
If you're still wanting to enter, there are 4 categories with plenty of brainstorming suggestions and ways to tackle this area of culture, or even to add emotional scenes to your worldbuilding: Established Partners, Places of Passion, Meetcutes and Matchmaking, or Romance-ception!
My entry for Dani's "Adventures in Romance" challenge! Love will find a way, even if the lovers are from different dimensions with different biologies! Let me know what kind of unlikely romances happen in your world. Or any you'd like to see in mine! #ChooseRomance2024#UnofficialChallenge
Y'all are awesome!! I've been loving the conversations floating about, the brainstorming I've seen in passing, and I can't wait to see what's in store for all of us on the #romance front for this year's #ChooseRomance2024! Our first two entries have already been submitted and I'm so happy to see both of them arrive!
It can be really tough to get our work out there and to brace ourselves to share with anyone, whether friend or stranger. But to get your world out on the stage and to show up for it, in the many individual creative ways we can do that...it brings this wild inspirational force which encourages others to do the same...which brings even more creativity, energy, and inspiration to the collective worldbuilding mojo...which brings more articles, which...you get the point, right? Everyone pounding out brainstorming mindmaps and articles and stories this month to share with others: you are building something amazing! Let's keep that creativity engine running and create even more! :D
Okay, okay! Without further ado, I bring you:
First up for our Romance-Ception writers: A myth that proves that perception is not one-size-fits-all by orphidor:
Congrats to you both for growing your worlds, getting your work out there, and having the courage to go first!! May you have many more words, and always more inspirations. <3
#ChooseRomance2024, #UnofficialChallenge. Well it would seem that the challenges keep me going on lesser worked on parts of the world. If not items, then reworking articles and lore. Then we have this, focusing on a bit more tenderness than the looming war in The Great Tree. I couldn't help myself. I had bits and pieces of a few plot points, so I suppose this could be considered spoilery, if not with a lot of dusting off!
I have been working on this particular plot point for a very long time. This challenge just gave the reason to work on it with the attention it needed. Though it's part of the second book that has no released chapters (yet), I haven't really hidden it in the first one either. So sometimes all it takes is just taking those first steps forward, in love and war, enjoy the people in your life. You never quite know where things will end up!
I love the idea of letting folks make up their own challenges, so I'm taking part in a few. The first is #Marchitecture. This is my context, required for the challenge:
The second I chose to take part in is #MagicMarch. For this one, I decided to revamp an ancient article I originally created using a different format back in 2018. Rewriting this one was really fun. If you want to take a look, here it is:
I'm also taking part in Adventures in Romance. (#ChooseRomance2024) Of course, I couldn't help but put a darker twist on the challenge. Here's what I wrote for this one:
To be honest, even though writing the articles and trying to follow the guidelines has been really fun, sharing my work has been difficult. I have extremely low self esteem when it comes to my creative stuff, whether that be my drawings or my writing. I want to get better about this, though, so I'm testing the limits of my comfort zone and putting my writing out there for the world to see.
I hope to participate in a few more unofficial challenges while they're still active. There are so many creative and fun-looking ones out there, I can't wait to get started on a few more!
#UnofficialChallenge
Which path will you choose to take in order to add some love and life to your world? Anyone planning to do more than one? Any cheeky folks planning to do ALL FOUR???
I can't wait to read what y'all cook up!
Badges (there are 4 of them omg) will be revealed tomorrowwwwwww!
