Dragon eggs

Oh, it's beautiful.

Dragon eggs are produced by mature Dragons while they are in their dragon form. Unfertilized Other Dragon eggs are a high-demand commodity on the Black market across the universe.

Production

The eggs are produced when a dragon has reached puberty, are in their dragon form, and are ready to produce and lay a clutch of 1-9 eggs. Up until around five days after the eggs have been laid, the eggs can be fertilized by the use of magic. Magic should penetrate and engulf the egg's core; if it is done correctly, an embryo will develop from the core. How to fertilize an egg is inherent to dragons, but it's not for other magic users, which means that when another magical species tries to fertilize a dragon egg, they may destroy it instead.

The same dragon who produced the egg can fertilize it. This, however, is currently frowned upon among the dragons on The Station, as it will produce offspring that are almost copies of the parent, which will weaken them against diseases. Polyamorous triads or quads are common among dragons, and one dragon usually produces the eggs while the others fertilize the eggs.

Magick

Not all magick in the universe can be used to fertilize an egg. The most obvious magick that can be used is Dragon Magick. This is a magick, genetically only usable by dragons. The other magick that can be used is a genetic magick used by the Spectera. Not many of them know how to use it, though. There are also other species with magick that can fertilize a dragon egg...   If the egg isn't fertilized, it can be used as a magical artifact. Magic can be stored in it, but with enough magical knowledge, the magick of the dragon parent of the egg can also be stolen through the core of the egg.   Eggs can fetch a high price on the black market mainly because of their magick, but there are also people who enjoy eating them, collecting them, or using the shells for magical concoctions.

The shell

The shells are scale-like and usually have the colors of the dragon that can be born from them. The shells are soft from the beginning, but after around ten days, they turn hard. Unfertilized eggs turn stone hard, while fertilized eggs are still fragile. Like dragon scales, the shells of dragon eggs are used in many potions or as magical jewelry. It's not uncommon for dragons to have jewelry made from their own eggshells.
