Guardian Lumber Material in World of Stendaaris | World Anvil

Guardian Lumber

Origin

Guardian lumber is unique lumber found in mixed forests around Stendaaris. They look, feel, and taste like typical trees around them in the vast forests. This makes them harder to spot when just traveling through the woods. These enhanced trees have a magical aura about them compared to the rest of the trees in the grove. They have only recently started to appear in the World of Stendaaris. It is rumored that they have been specially grown to protect those that find these unique trees or even the forests they are in.

Discovery

It was discovered there are fifteen different types of guardian lumber with unique properties when used in particular projects using lumber. Some of these are more common than others. The first to discover these properties was a Tabaxi ranger named Elara Windrider. She found a very rare Guardian Tree known as Solstice Ash. So she started to research these new types of trees. She discovered a connection to the feywild and other fourteen other types in her research. She found that there are three common guardian trees: Emberwood, Tempestpine, and Rimebirch. She also notes three uncommon guardian trees: Ironbark, Whispervine, and Lumensap. After some hard work, she didn't know if she would ever find another Solstice Ash, but then she discovered three new rare guardian trees; Starglow Oak, Dreadheart, and Sylphreed. When she wanted to give up and pack up her research, she found three rare guardian trees; Celestial Elm, another Solstice Ash, and Voidwood. After reporting these types of trees, she was visited three times by adventures wanting to sell or identify a strange piece of lumber they had acquired. She could document the legendary guardian trees here: Eldertree, Stendaarian Oak, and Primordial Willow.

Usage

The everyday use of any guardian lumber is to be used to craft magical items. Typically they are crafted into magical bows but have been used as enhancements to other weapons and armor. A more practical side took hold among various naval fleets. It was discovered that the guardian trees' lumber could be used to enhance the hulls of their ships and provide adequate fuel and power. The reason is that it could make them stronger or even more slick through the water.

Working With It

Working with Guardian Lumber would typically require proficiency in specific skills. However here are some skills and professions that would be relevant when working with Guardian Lumber.   A well trained wood carver would be able to use their wood carving tools for shaping and crafting the Guardian Lumber into desired forms, whether it's for shipbuilding, weapon construction, or creating magical artifacts.   A researcher, druid, ranger, or other nature base professional. Would be suited for understanding the unique properties and characteristics of the Guardian Lumber. It would help in identifying the types of wood, recognizing their magical qualities, and understanding how to work with them effectively.   A well trained scholar in the arts of magic and arcana would aid in comprehending the magical aspects of Guardian Lumber. It would allow for a deeper understanding of the enchanted properties of the wood, the potential uses, and how to maximize their magical potential when crafting items or imbuing spells into them.   A skilled scout who has a sharp eye and keen perception would be valuable when sourcing or identifying the Guardian Lumber. It would help in noticing the subtleties of the wood's appearance, detecting any hidden magical elements, or spotting potential flaws or weaknesses that might affect its usability.   Those trained as survivalist could be useful when venturing into specific environments to locate or harvest Guardian Lumber. It would assist in tracking the rare trees or navigating through treacherous terrain to find the ideal sources of this mystical wood.   A scholorly historian might come in handy when researching the lore and legends surrounding Guardian Lumber. It could provide insights into the wood's origins, its significance in ancient civilizations or magical traditions, and any known techniques or rituals associated with working with the lumber.   A skilled shipwright would be usefull for pulling out the magical properties of the Guardian Lumber for the use in naval vehicles.

I am a sucker for plant baste fuel, what can I say. Positively noted, that the article itself feels slim, jet all the links and different trees makes it feel like a tree on its own. Coincidence I am sure, but very pleasing.   Furthermore, you mentioned the taste so casually, that I have to question your species eating habit :P

It is all because, in a DND game, a player rolled on the madness charts and had to eat the closest thing to him, and it was a stick of lumber. So it is a running gag to have a taste of wood.

Also wondering Drake if you read this before or after I added more information.

It seems odd to me that they would find a new type of magical tree, then just start cutting them down - well, maybe not given how people are... But shouldn't they have figured out how many there were and NOT cut them down until they got a grove well established so they didn't make the new magic trees go extinct? Maybe after awards that's something to add?
