WorldEmber '21 Reading Challenge

This article is a work in progress
As part of World Anvil's 2021 reading challenge, I've collected some articles below that inspired me and I hope can also inspire you too!
In no particular order, please see below my top-10 picks from the WorldEmber '21 challenge.

1: Goggles of True Sight

This article made me chuckle upon first reading it and to me, that's a sign of a great and memerable article! Something that envokes a response from the reader. In adition to the comedic aspect, the artwork within the article is great and really drives home the concept of this item.
  Inspiration:
  • Artwork
  • Comedy

2: Rréraliázi

This article is visually stunning and fantastically laid out. At first, I honestly couldn't choose which was more impressive... this article, or TJ's Common Calendar article. But, after spedning more time exploring the world of Melior, I settled on Rréraliázi for the sheer ammount of thought that clearly went into it's creation and it's seamless fit into their world.
  Inspiration:
  • Article layout
  • Depth and consideration

3: The Week of Terrors

A beautiful article of cultural impact in Ninne124's world of Dark-Fall with long-lasting repurcussions on biases of the common folk and caused by those in power.
This article treally shows how quickly minds can be shifted by wise words and a lack of understanding.   Inspiration:
  • Historical event
  • Cultural impact

4: Unity Concord

A huge article with lots of well thought out lore, interconnecting articles and endless ammounts of detail. If you like wiki-style articles, this is one for you!
This article also uses the sidebar quite effectivley as well as the ArticleTOC feature to help mitigate it's length.   Inspiration:
  • Depth of content
  • Wiki-style detail

5: Tidal Torture

A really unique idea that i've not heard of before but something I think fits beautifuly into Bonus Action's world, given it's theme. I have a prison in CITADEL that i've been developing over time - Rauthrbak Min, so this article really inspired me to consider what could occur there.
  Inspiration:
  • Method of imprisonment
  • Torture

6: Hidey-Hidey Lair

A really fun article that I enjoyed reading for it's novelty and humour through simplistic language and double-namings.
With lots of heroforge models, you can truly get a sense of the inhabitants of this area and their apperance.   Inspiration:
  • Article layout
  • Comedy

7: White soldiers

Another gorgeous article/world with some great lore. The cultural pieces of this article showcase some great worldbuilding and have inspired me to consider the imapcts of flora in my world.
  Inspiration:
  • Mushroom!
  • Cultural impact

8: Fungowl

This article goes to greath lenghts to provide anatomical and biological details to the reader. This helps to make the Fungowl seem more real and like something that truly does exist.
  Inspiration:
  • Owls with mushrooms!?
  • Anatomical detail

9: Arellund

Another beautiful article with some amazing artwork to support the abundance of detail included within this article.
The sidebar alone in this article contains some great information and is wonderfully organised. I simply adore everything about this article.   Inspiration:
  • Article layout
  • Artowrk

10: Arokush

A great way to toughen the younger members of this society and prepare them for the harsh enviroment that they live in. Teaching those coming of age various skills from craftsmanship to survival instincts.
This article is well thought out and provides a lovely short story at the end.   Inspiration:
  • Coming of age ceremony
  • Short story

Summary

There were simply some amazing articles produced by the WorldAnvil community this year during World Ember and I'm proud to say I was a part of it.   My main takeaways from the above articles that have inspired me, is to refine my user experience through sleek CSS as well as fully utilising BBcode commands to play with article layouts in a manner that breaks up content for the reader in an unintruisive, natural way. Drawing the reader's eye arround the page to various focal points to keep their interest.   In addition to this, going back and refining my articles to include emotive content such as quotes or simply including more storytelling elements where possible. Articles that do this stick in the readers mind and makes content more memorable.

Yeah it is always a difficult pick. Even with my bonus reading that I did I was not able to read from that many authors, mostly only those that I saw in the chat at some point. World Anvil has so many great writers!

lol, I read your summary about refining through your use of CSS and BBcode and all I could think was, 'and YET, you included one of mine!' I feel the same way, but having zero understanding of CSS, I have a long, long way to go. What you've already managed is beautiful, easy to follow, and well thought out. I love these sort of articles, too, because it helps me wade through and find more articles to read; more people to connect with. Thank you. Thank you for including Heartshards in your list, as well. I will enjoy watching the evolution for both of us as we progress here.

Hahaha, just because that was my main takeaway, doesn't mean that the content of your world wasn't still inspiring! What you have currently works well and can only get better. Don't thank me, thank the WA team for setting the challenge haha, you're absolutely right though that it is a great boon to the community. It was a well deserved pick that is worth highlighting, you did a great job with it! I share your sentiment, onwards and upwards!
