Wyvern Foothills

Forming at the base of the Dragon Mountains and extending northward for anywhere from 20 to 50 miles depending on your location within the foothills. Home to perhaps half a dozen settlements, primarily trapping villages, the Foothills are a travelers last geographical region before arriving at the Summervine River Valley.

Geography

While the terrain of the region is, in totality, nothing more than wooded hills the less reductive descriptor would define the region as a highland due to its close proximity to the mountains. In concert with the area's natural inclination towards the taiga biome, this usually means the winters are long, cold and dry and the summers short and hot.

Fauna & Flora

The Foothills are covered almost entirely with pine forests, meaning large open spaces, plenty of room to moved with shrubbery kept to a minimum do to a carpet of nettles covering the soil. As far as wildlife goes, the forests themselves are packed with wildlife and the denizens of the region make their living off of hunting and trapping said wildlife. While the majority of the dragons in the area have made their homes in the mountains, they do the majority of their hunting the foothills and it is not uncommon for a younger dragon, fresh out of its nest, to make a temporary home in the highlands before it grows big enough to challenge another older dragon for its territory in the mountains.

Natural Resources

The forests of the highlands provide plenty of lumber for the people living in the region, but the remoteness of the area, the difficulty associated with overland travel through the region and the lack of access to the main waterways of Aldir has kept the lumber trade from really kicking off in the area. Instead the locals make their living off of the wildlife, trapping, hunting and trading in furs, tallow and other animal byproducts which they have in surplus. Additionally, prospecting has revealed that the hills are an excellent source of bronze and granite, and a small mining operation has been established towards the foothills' western terminus.
