Holypertuis

Holypertuis is the capital of Tana's Empire and of the Kingdom of Vale; it is a massive city north of the Wood of the Vale.

Geography

The city is in the form of a concentric circle, with large roads connecting up to the 4 cardinal points where a huge wall protects the inhabitants from outside dangers. There are only 4 openings in this wall, the 4 gates at the end of the avenues, these avenues being centered around the huge aqueducts. The first circle, where the spring emanates from, and to which only the nobles have access, is the great central castle, this one surrounded by flourishing gardens gives then place to the rich district and has large squares with important buildings (such as the adventurers guild, or the hall with the elements, building with the immense elementary portals) the further one moves away towards the walls, the poorer the houses become and the less the roads are maintained, the districts directly stuck to the wall being known as the low bottom of the city and the badly frequented district.
Patrols around the aqueducts are numerous, as Holypertuis is the source supplying a large majority of the area above in water, with the villages around the city flourishing with life thanks to the water supplied to them, and providing a majority of the food consumed by the city.

Description

Holypertuis is a huge, sprawling metropolis, built on rolling hills still visible under the buildings covering them. The city is centered around a holy spring, a huge aqueduct sprout from the spring in all four cardinal directions. Two set of Walls surround the city, that form concentrated circles. The first set of walls protects the castle, the home of the king and emperor, and his family. The second set of walls protect the bulk of the city and contains the shops, workshop, and various houses. The closer you get from the inner wall, the richer the place.

Within the Inner Wall

Within the Inner wall is the massive Castle Goldleaf. Surrounding the holy spring of the city, the castle is home of the king Charle III Tana and his wife Camelia Tana. Around the Castle, the massive garden surrounding the edifice are verdant and filled with intricate decoration. Large marble fountains dotting the path winding through the garden.
A guard barrack within that inner circle, hold the royal guard and assure a constant presence of elite soldier to protect the area.
The Inner wall, and what they protect is the oldest portion of Holypertuis. A massive door is the only entrance to this inner circle. The door 35 feet high and 15 feet wide is mainly made out of dark wood. the base of which is reinforced with the same light grey stone the castle is made of, and large and dark metallic bar enforced the door on its height. A smaller, normal-sized door is made within the massive door to let in and out guests of lesser importance.

Within the Outter Wall

Close to the inner circle, Many noble or rich families have settled to build their house, and a few shops and public buildings dedicated to the wealthier dot the area. It is in proximity to the inner wall that the Adventurer's Guild Hall can be found, as well as the Golden lacet. The Portal building is also near, and is extremely important within the city, as it link Holypertuis the the Elemental Plane of Fire and the City of Brass, allowing the city to get an important flow of goods and magical item.
Further from the inner wall, wealthy shops can be found, like Roman and Romain weapon shop, the bank, or some fancy clothing store. The house starts to get smaller, yet keep intricate design and display their owner wealth.
Then, the further you get from the inner circle, the poorer the area until you reach the outer wall where small, broken houses are piled against the walls.

Outskirt

Many farmers are on the outskirts of the city, the large golden fields irrigated thanks to the aqueduct surrounding most of the city. In addition to the farmlands, a large portion of Tana's Empire military forces are in outpost and keeps not far from the city.

Gates

Leading in and out of the outskirt and connecting it to the city within the outer walls, 4 large gate stand in Holypertuis. Use the following table to determine the interaction at the gate.

Underground network

by Florian de Gesincourt
And as you'd expect in such a large city whose main source of income is the trade in magical objects... There's a story that in the rather sophisticated sewage system, there's a hidden side of the city where a large black market would allow us to get what no one could even imagine.
The sewers were built by Akhator Baltazar, a great architect also known for his work in the magical field. The complex underground system of those sewers makes for a veritable maze snaking under the city's street. Legend tells of a city under the city, hidden beneath the ground, that would host the thieves and outlaws from all horizons. As the city was built on the buried body of a dead golden dragon, his skeleton serves as the foundation for this undercity, and its lingering magic blesses the water spring.

Hidden underground entrance.

    • Jack's brewery, a poor-looking inn hide an entrance in the backroom. This entrance while rather easy to learn about is quite costly, it cost 1 gp each time you want to go down that path.
    • The colosseum, holding incredible events for the citizen, also serves as the largest gateway to the undercity, most often used when criminal try to transfer large creature or goods into the undercity,, this entrance ain't accessible to anyone. If, for whatever reason, you are required to use this entrance, it will cost dearly, 8000gp to have the colosseum closed for half an hour, and for you to hurry to get whatever you want underground.
    • The cemetery is a place for the dead to rest, yet one of the tombs, to a certain 'Ence Tran' is actually an entrance to the undercity, it requires the strength to move the stone slab tho.

History

The magical crystals allowing the stable opening of interplanary passages with the elemental planes were stolen in 1133 AD, creating an economic drama that affected the city's economy by the time the crystal was returned. Thanks to the support of the adventurers guild, the stolen crystal was back within a week, limiting the impact of the drama.
