Charlie grew up on Tantalus Prime, in the capital city, Plouto. He spoke with the typical dialect of people from Tantalus, filled with expletives and a tendency to fight with his many brothers. When he became an adolescent he would also sleep with his older brother, those times when they weren’t fighting.
Major holidays the family would celebrate at Charlie’s uncle’s mansion on the moon Pelops where Charlie would get beaten up by his cousins, Clara and Tyra, daughters of the uncle, who owned the mansion. Other cousins would also beat Charlie up, but mostly male cousins, so he usually fought back.
Charlie’s uncle, the one with the mansion, was Humphrey Boswell who spent most of his time in Aeolus City, where he was an executive, producer and talent manager at Euterpe Recording Company. In the spring of 2938 Humphrey put together a boy band, which eventually took the name Crushed Velvet. Humphrey brought Charlie over to Aeolus City and made sure he made it through the auditioning process and became a member of the band. It was Humphrey’s plan that Charlie would challenge Harley Williamson for the position as leader of the group, argue with him and get the others to band together against Harley. Charlie and Harley would argue a lot whenever Humphrey was around, and whenever the press was around, but the others never took Charlie’s side, because that’s what all five members of the band agreed to. Charlie and Harley only argued for show, but as soon as any non group members were out of the room Charlie always folded to Harley’s will, and they’d have sex. The arguments were just for show, and they got along just fine in private.
