Ear Worm Virus
The virus was developed and spread by Demeter Jones, in 2939 SE, when he was only nine years old.
It’s the first, and so far only, computer virus designed to affect the nano-bots all Coalition Citizens have in their bodies, from birth.
The virus causes the nano-bots to compose a short, repetitive and catchy melody, with the help of the person’s subconscious. The infected begins to hear the melody and finds it sounding familiar, but can’t figure out where they heard it before. They are compelled to hum, whistle, sing or otherwise perform the melody so others can hear it. Performance of the melody release dopamine into the system of the infected, so they get withdrawal symptoms if they stop.
The melody was downloaded to a recording company that managed the boy band Crushed Velvet. The recording company copyrighted the melody retroactively and billed the infected for royalties, for performing the melody. The company wrote lyrics to the songs and had Crushed Velvet record them for their next album.
The virus was embedded into the melody, so that anyone who heard it was infected.
Transmission & Vectors
The virus is embedded into a piece of music and infect anyone who hears it. The infected are compelled to perform their own melody, which contains the virus, thus spreading it further.
Treatment
A special light is shone in the infected’s eyes, that flicker at a frequency that cures the infected and wipe the virus from their nano-bots.
