The Journey Down
A few days earlier, Regus Strongarrow requested the players to report at the Argonian consulate once the demonologist from the central provinces has arrived. Master Remus will tip off the party on the demonologist’s arrival. Going to the consulate, the players will have a meeting with Regus, Rohein Tailfeather, and the demonologist. This scholar is a female Tiefling called Nemeia Pekkan, who is part of the Imperial Society of the Learned. She has researched the region and found a potential reason of why the demons are rampaging in Meydia. Nemeia speculates that there is an entrance to the underworld somewhere in the region. This underworld is referred to as Asmodeus in ancient Hippodean texts. Taking into account the appearance of the Thorns Wood, the scholar believes that this entrance is somewhere in this part of the Secluded Wilds that borders Meydia. The place she is referring to is the Caverns into the Depths, which is where the players slayed Lazarus at the end of the Investigating the Wild Tribes quest.
The party will have to travel to the Caverns. Nemeia claims to know the location of a teleportation circle that is connected to the underworld network, which lies just past the entrance of the cave. She will show the circle’s location to the party, allowing them to attune to it. Based on her notes, Nemeia believes that this teleporter enables the group to travel directly to Asmodeus, circumventing the dangerous cave network that lies before them. Alas, without having been attuned to a second circle in the network, this teleportation device is useless. As such, the party will have no other option but to traverse the cavern and try to overcome its many dangers.
Once the party gets to the room with the whirlwind, Nemeia will cast a spell that causes a forking bridge to form through the tornado. Those who cross the bridge will not be affected by the tornado as long as they keep one of their feet on the ground. It can still happen though that someone might get hit by flying debris. The tornado is caused due to a rift in the plane, connecting to the elemental plane of energy. As such, if anyone would be swept away by the storm, their chances of survival would be very slim.
After surviving most of the caverns, the party will enter its final room which leads into Asmodeus. Excited by the prospect, Nemeia will try to rush off ahead. If the players don’t stop her, she will be killed by a demon who lingers in the room, which causes the quest to fail. If the players stop or otherwise save her, the demonologist will accompany the party into Mausolea. She will then stay in the palace with Deaderah in order to study the city. After a long rest, she will hand over the players a report that acts as proof that the party has completed their quest. They can hand over the report to Meydia’s governor in order to obtain their reward.
Grander Scope
Players will be able to head to Asmodeus, a critical step in progressing the campaign. Additionally, Nemeia can provide information on Arenez, yet not an awful lot. She will not talk about the deity unless the players bring up his name. She can tell them that Arenez is a disgraced Hippodean deity who guarded the underworld and that he rebelled against the other gods at some point. Most importantly, the quest serves as a focal point for the campaign, giving the players a direction to follow and kicking off the player's journey to stop Arenez. This is also accomplished through the The Weathered City event that announces the quest a few days prior to the arrival of the demonologist.Description
"The demonologist Nemeia Pekkan has been sent to Meydia to investigate the cause of the heightened demon activity. Believing she has found a clue to resolve this mystery, Nemeia has requested a small but capable party to escort her during her expedition. She wishes to venture toward the Thorns wood where she believes there to be an entrance to the underworld, which could have a lot to do with the demon incursion. Ensure Nemeia Pekkan's safety during her journey and assist her in discovering the cause behind the province's greatest worry."Progression
