Hippodeans
The Hippodeans were a thriving people from ancient times. Their original home is not known, but at some point, they traveled to the southern part of the Argonian main continent creating a number of colonies. They were divided between a great many city-states that each had their own political landscapes and traditions. Yet the Hippodean people shared a common culture. This overarching culture presented itself in many ways, architecture, shipbuilding, military equipment, clothing, language and writing, mathematics, and most importantly religion. The people of the many city-states all shared a strong dedication to their gods. The Hippodean faith consisted of a rich pantheon of gods and goddesses that ruled over different aspects of the world. A strong hierarchy exists among the gods and so many of the cities of the Hippodean world had grand temples dedicated to one or many of the most important deities.
The Hippodeans are said to have come across the southern sea to the Argonean continent. They established many thriving cities long before The Ashlands corrupted the lands. Yet when the demonic incursions came, the magnificent states soon began to fall. Some were abandoned quickly, while others fought until the bitter end. Eventually, though, only the city of Meydia still stood tall. Being spared the harshes attacks due to the horrid desert standing between them and the Ashlands, the people of Meydia survived. For many centuries, they managed to hang on, even expanding into the remaining lands of the continent. Yet they eventually met their demise about 15 centuries ago, when a destructive war between two deities destroyed the remainder of the Hippodean lands on the continent. A devastating clash between The Warring Twins brought widespread destruction to the lands, with Meydia being its epicenter. The great city that once stood in the wide planes got completely demolished, leaving almost no trace of its existence. The rest of the city-state's settlements got reduced to ruins while the area in between got scorched. Raging fires brought down forests and the clashing of the gods shifted mountains. This catastrophic event brought down the last remaining bastion of Hippodean culture on the continent and so the gods abandoned it not long after.
The Hippodean culture heavily resembles ancient Greek culture. Especially their religion, which is almost a one-to-one copy of Greek mythology, names and all.
