Mausolea

Mausolea is one of the 26 great cities built by Arenez during the start of his reign. The city is positioned right in front of one of the caverns leading out of Asmodeus. The city was built here in order to make it easier to keep stray demons from escaping into the overworld. Only those who followed Arenez and agreed to never leave the underworld were allowed to live in the city. This meant that almost all habitants of Mausolea also acted as guards, keeping watch over the nearby exit.
Alas, when Arenez was imprisoned by the other gods, it was feared that his followers would once again take off to the surface to rebel against the gods. In order to avoid this horrible outcome, a spell was cast over each of the 26 cities. A thick, dark mist now enshrouds Mausolea, keeping its inhabitants in a mindless state, forcing them to wander the streets aimlessly never to leave the city. To ensure all goes well, the gods put a local demoness in place to oversee the city. Deaderah, she who choose the gods over her liege. She rules from within the palace in the center of the city, where the smoke does not reach. Here she sits chained to her throne, overlooking the city for all eternity.
The city was built with a great wall surrounding it. The wall contains two gates, one leading to the caverns and one leading to the rest of Asmodeus, with the former gate being sealed by a heavy iron door. In the city center stands a grand palace. In past times, the strongest demons residing in Mausolea would rule the city from here. The place also served as a holy site, allowing for demons to worship Arenez and even call upon him in times of need. There is little else of interest within the city apart from housing and some market districts. At present, however, most buildings and some sizable portions of the wall have crumbled, making the city look almost abandoned.
