The History of The Azure Sea so far

The Antarian Federation

Five thousand years ago all of the elf tribes were united under the banner of the Antarian Federation. Based in the ancient conclave of Antaros, the Elves traded and mixed freely with the other peoples of the world. Eventually, coming under pressure from the expanding Cerulean Empire, the Great Pelagic War broke out.   The magic and diversity of the Elves won out however, and the Cerulean Empire was thrown back right unto the very furthest western shores of The Azure Sea. Just as victory seemed inevitable something terrible happened.   A Great Schism occurred between the races of Elves. None know for sure what caused it, and each elven race has it's own version of the tale. The strongest rumours suggest the Schism began in the Fearwyd Weald. Whatever the reason, the Great Schism had a devastating effect on the Elves, and the tribes were sundered. The Grugach fled to begin anew deep within the Fearwyd Weald. The Alugach disappeared into the sea. The Drow fled underground, and the Eldgach retreated to Antaros and sued for peace with the Cerulean Empire.   Ancient sites of the lost Antarian Federation can be found all over the lands.

The Great Deluge

The Great Deluge is a creation myth that is widely accepted across The Azure Sea. Most cultures have some version of this myth in their history, though the details often vary.   Most versions of the tale tell that the lands of The Azure Sea were raised up by Procan almost 6000 years ago.   Rumours of ancient sites belonging to a great, unknown Antediluvian civilisation continue to persist amongst harbourside taverns across the lands.

Current Species & Cultures

The Azure Sea is home to many diverse races and cultures. Some of them are unique to the world, such as the Carcharion.   As well as the playable races, the following also play a major part in life across The Azure Sea:

Needs & Relations

The Cerulean Empire

The last, large civilised state of humankind in the western shores. Once a great power in the world the Empire is now greatly diminished, though with ambitions to expand once more. They generally believe that they are helping others by offering security and order.

The Antarian Domain

Antaros is the only known remaining city of Elves in the world. Once part of the great Antarian Federation the Elves now keep to themselves and no longer concern themselves with the doings of the other races.

The Sea Princes

A loose alliance of pirate princes that has established a hold in the southern seas. The Hold of the Sea Princes harries the trade routes across The Azure Sea and has its fingers in many of the smuggler and slavery organisations across the lands. The Sea Princes seem to care only for their own grandeur and will use the other races as they see fit.

Cholto Territory

In the northern swamps the Cholto Territory is the largest and most organised confederacy of Lizardfolk tribes. They are mainly concerned with their own safety and defence, and do not wish to be caught in the middle again, as they were during the Great Pelagic War.

Koldor Dwarf Clans

Having retreated underground during the Great Pelagic War, the Dwarves have only relatively recently re-emerged as a force in the lands. After the war they spent years fighting the Drow who had invaded their mines after the Great Schism of the Elves. Therefore they have a deep mistrust of elvenkind. Now they are back and determined to be a force in the world and expand their territories.

Nightshade Demesne

Very little is known about this whispered force deep in the Fearwyd Weald. Dark rumours and tales abound about it, and none of them are good. Whatever force is behind the Nightshade Demesne seems content to remain in the heart of the great forest however, at least for now.
