Cholto Territory Organization in The Azure Sea | World Anvil

Cholto Territory

The huge expanse of the Hool Marshes stretches across much of the northern shores of The Azure Sea, a formidable barrier to those looking to cross it. A sea voyage often seems the easier route. There are many, many dangers in the marshes, but despite that a large civilisation has made it's home there - the Lizardfolk of the Cholto tribe.   Somewhere near the centre of the marshes lies the Lizardfolk city of Izo Chuat, a hive of activity and ingenuity. In the centre of the city, surrounded by the nests and hatcheries of the Folk, Kuxishk Kasz sits on her throne of bogwood.   Very few non-Lizardfolk have ever reached the city, having been turned away by the difficulty of travel across the marsh, or by the creatures that dwell therein. Those few stories that have made their way out of the swamp mist tell of large complex of huts and walkways constructed with surprising skill around a huge lake. Tall, pyramidal buildings of brown stone rise from the swamp waters around the city, seemingly artefacts from a much older civilisation. One of the largest is used as a temple to Semuanya.   Little is understood about the motivations of the Lizardfolk. General stereotypes hold them as a savage and brutal race barely making out a living in the turgid swamps of the world. Those who have experienced a little of their company however know that they are a deeply misunderstood and highly intelligent people, even if their motivations remain a mystery.   Whatever the truth, no-one crosses the Hool Marshes without their knowledge and blessing.
