d'Uthar Family

It was a military concept that first brought the d'Uthar's to prominence. Back in the days when the Empire of Eldoria could not be conceived, even by the most visionary of the family's patriarchs and the Island of Eldoria was cut into a hundred warring tribes. By acclimating horses to the sounds and smells of battle, the family gained an upper hand in these wars, one they would never relinquish. And while the Andors put up a stiff resistance for another fifty, Jendaled'Uthar accepted their surrender in 304 BC to become the undisputed warlord of all the island.

Three hundred years later, they had grown the power of both the island and their family to point where they proclaimed the island an Empire and Kern d'Uthar I an emperor. Like make great dynasties, the transition from the founder to the first heir proved challenging as eldest son Dorn fell to the temptations of darkness and had to be deposed by his brother, Jethrick d'Uthar I.

Since that time, the d'Uthar's have maintained the habit of keeping younger brothers unmarried to avoid potential conflicts for the crown. This has caused the d'Uthar family tree to have a rather straight lineage over the past seven centuries, its litany of Kerns, Jethricks, and Ulrics ruling over the Empire as it rose in power, claiming territory all over the Inner Seas. Even as the Empire waned, largely divesting itself of holdings beyond the shores of the Island, the d'Uthars maintained a constant, if not always steady, hand on the tiller.

Today, the family faces one of its greatest challenges ever. Several sudden deaths in the past decade have left young Ulric VIII wears the heavy crown of the Empire. as the lad is far too young to rule, his uncle, aptly named Jethrick serves as regent. No matter how honest Jethrick is in his intentions, the nobility of the Empire are bound to read innuendo in every action and assume that the young Emperor's uncle is somehow conspiring to gain the throne.
