After his father died in a palace fire, young Ulric ascended to the throne and became the most powerful person on Tarien, albeit it one who still takes the occasional afternoon nap. Fortunately for the Empire, Ulric's uncle, who took over as regent, is an upstanding man with no desire for the throne. Always one to appreciate fine things - such as clothing and his mother's jewelry, Ulric has already mastered the art of looking imperial. Combined with natural charm and age, and there are few within the inner circle at the Imperial Palace, besides his uncle, who could bear to correct him or even discipline him. Young Ulric has taken an active interest is his new responsibilities and can often be seen listening to petitioners, asking countless questions of his counselors, and occasionally extending an unexpected compassionate hand to his subjects. As with any transition in power, especially with one so young, there are numerous courtiers who do not have the young emperor's best interests at heart. There have already been a pair of incidents where his unexpected compassion has proven unwise and one can only pray that these experiences do not turn his youthful kinds into fatalsim.
