Kneel

About Solaris | Guide to Solaris | Prologue
Kneel is a combat sport, a duel won by forcing your opponent to their knees before they bring you to yours. The simple nature of the sport allows all kinds of disciplines to pit themselves against one another. People compete with brute strength, martial prowess, powerful abilities, and even intimidation.   Despite its reputation as a brutal and vicious sport, the professional leagues penalize moves that permanently damage the opponent. Severe injuries will lead to disqualification, either from the event or the league altogether. Professional games of Kneel are played in small arenas, where two overlapping circles are marked out. Many tournaments use a scoring system to incentivise exciting games and grant extra points for speed, artistry or achieving special conditions like winning without touching your opponent.   Informal games range from scrappy fights to illegal tournaments. Many informal games start out with the two opponents back to back, and both count down three steps apart to mark out the distance. Any and all measures are on the table in these games, though particularly dirty tricks can turn a turn of Kneel into a wider brawl.

Notable Competitors

  • Lexi Lazarus – Infamously broke the spine of a competitor, and used the threat of doing so again to win his second tournament. Banned from all professional circuits since he became Pirate Queen.
  • Thauma Magallana – New but undefeated in professional circuits. Uses mental domination to secure fast victories.

For a sport with a relatively simple premise, it can be quite brutal o_O (I'd like to watch a match)

Thank you! Sometimes simple premises actually end up allowing for a lot more complexity

I love all the different ways people could win at this, though I'm glad severe injuries are punished (in official matches). I assume the illegal Kneel matches are a bit more violent.

Thank you. Yes, the illegal games can get quite violent. I think some people would argue that's part of the appeal.

I feel like even with the rules you'd end up with a lot of broken knees! lol this is really neat though, good work.

That's one way to knock someone out of the tournament! Thank you!

So, if an opponent falls on their back, that doesn't count? I bet they practise falling techniques, just so they don't "technically" land on their knees.

At the end of everything, hold onto anything.

Yes, and yes, I would imagine they do!

I love this as a concept and the little details are everything! The three paces in the informal games, the penalties for excessive violence in the officially sanctioned matches—it's great!

Thank you! I think a couple good sports do a lot for a setting!
