Shadows of Existence
A party of adventurers formed to oppose Corruption.
Structure
The Shadows of Existence have a very flat organizational structure. Aside from an elected leader who is empowered to act as an arbiter for internal conflicts, all members are considered to have equal authority. They're professionals, after all, and the group's active roster changes frequently enough that a set structure would be useless anyway.
Public Agenda
Publicly, the Shadows of Existence are simply a powerful adventuring party with frequent membership changes, pursuing wealth and adventure across Renedge and helping people where they can. In reality, their primary purpose is to oppose the spread of extrauniversal Corruption, which is a sufficient infohazard that even knowledge of its existence is considered dangerous.
History
The party later known as the Shadows of Existence was formed in June of 23 ARL at the direction of Adrienne, goddess of existence and creation. Initially consisting of Pele Firewing, Humphery, Sith, Terana Delgarrod, and Knight, its immediate goal was to aid the Black Samurai in the destruction of all Corruption on the continents of Chae and Shisui.
The Corruption in Chae was easier to handle, so the Shadows assembled a force (called Team Chae) from their combined followers to deal with the situation there. The Shadows themselves focused on gathering information and resources in preparation for a venture into Shisui, where the Corrupted eunuch advisors now running the Empire of Shisui were rumored to be able to permanently erase a person from existence with a glance.
Three months later, after participating in a pirate war, visiting Cubit, getting in an undead Battle of the Bands, and handling a bevy of time-sensitive and personal quests, the party finally deployed to Shisui to support the invasion of the Black Samurai's army. Over the course of two weeks, they killed a krakentoa, destroyed the Rift Dweller in The Chasm of the Lost, retrieved the Emerald Lantern to repair the barrier between the material plane and the afterlife, and, on September 13th, destroyed the physical embodiment of the Corruption on Shisui with the aid of the gods and ancestors. This battle cost the lives of all participating Shadows and many nearby civilians, and it left a terrible gash across the imperial capital. The Shadows present, namely Knight, Eldrin, Sith, and Ruby, were only saved from permanent annihilation by a one-use banner they had retrieved from Cubit, which brought them back to existence the next day.
