Secumum Geographic Location in Potestatem | World Anvil

Secumum (Sek-Uh-Mum)

Secumum is the fourth planet from the star Lutae in the Potestatem Sphere. It is about half the size of Potestatem and almost 90% of the planet is water. Known as the wet world, fresh world or sister planet, Secumum is the oft' forgotten second habitable planet in the Potestatem sphere.

Geography

The world is oceanic, lacking the large continents of it's sister Potestatem. Secumum boasts many small islands sprinkled around the globe, in addition to one large central landmass. These lands were all artificially created and thus lack many of the more obtrusive features which would be found on naturally formed lands.   Due to the planets distance from Lutae, the world is fairly cold with massive ice sheets at the northern and southern poles. The equator is thus where the inhabited islands of Secumum can be found.

Ecosystem

Biodiversity on the various islands of Secumum are mostly transplants from Potestatem, brought to the world during the Perisian Empire's colonial efforts during the second era. Those who are fortunate enough to travel between the worlds will have a hard time finding a difference between the Twilight Jungle of Secumum and the Foisham Jungle of Potestatem.   While Secumum lacks a native land based ecosystem, the biodiversity of it's great oceans would put Potestatem to shame. Hundreds of thousands of miles of reefs boast untold millions of unique sea life. Additionally, Secumum boasts multiple sentient species not originally found on Potestatem. With Tritons and Locathah calling the blue orb their home. Greatest of all sea life on Secumum, the Leviathans lurk in the deep seas along the planets ice caps.   Notably, the world boasts a shockingly small extraplanear population. The many horrors of the multiverse which populate Potestatem will not be easily found of Secumum. Caves are devoid of far realm horrors and the bushes hold minimal lurking demons.

Ecosystem Cycles

Secumum, unlike Potestatem boasts four unique seasons. As the planet preforms it's 400 day rotation around Lutae, the weather will grow colder and warmer along the poles.   Although this has only minor implications for the equatorial landmasses of Secumum, these changing seasons cause great migrations of sea creatures as the ocean currents and polar ice sheets shift in the ever changing temperature.

Localized Phenomena

Secumum is known widly among academic circles for it's arcane field. Permeating the planets atmosphere, it prevents teleportation or planear travel to or from the planet. The phenomena further interferes with intra-planet teleportation, with even Full Slivers unable to travel more than a few hundred feet on the planets surface.   Originally created by the Perisian Empire, the phenomena continues to persist long past it's creators expiration.   "Escape the hustle and bustle of Potestatem! One quick cruise away is the destination of your dreams! Come visit the fresh world." -Old Perisian Manuscript

History

The history of Secumum before the arrival of the Perisian Empire is not known. Though some native scholars estimate that life on the planet could be even older than life on Potestatem.   Written history began when the first Gnomish explorers began using Spelljammers to travel to the wet world. At that time, the planet was entirely oceanic, with no recorded landmasses above the sea.   Eventually a particularly wealthy Perisian noble purchased the rights to the planet. Sending several Full Slivers under his employ to terraform parts of the world to his liking. These Slivers labored for many years to raise land closest to the surface fully out of the water. Creating idyllic islands which were promptly sold to powerful nobles and mages seeking a remove vacation home. To ensure the remoteness of these homes, the planet was magically cut off from teleportation and extraplanear travel.   With time Secumum would become known as the fresh world. A place unbound by the expectations and politicking of Potestatem. A city sharing the planets name would be founded to further cater to the needs and desires of the obscenely rich.   This heyday would end abruptly, much like the empire which caused it. A terrorist attack by the The Destroyer's cult would cause irreparable harm to the city of Secumum, entirely ending the regular travel between the sister planets.    This event caused a power vacuum on the planet, which would be slowly filled by the current societies found on Secumum.

Tourism

Modern Secumum receives minimal tourism, as only a handful of offworlders visit the planet in any given year.   During the Perisian Empire, the planet was known as the fresh world and received regular tourism. Obscenely wealthy Perisian nobles mixed with obnoxiously powerful Full Slivers. The legacy of this tourism can still be felt by the denizens of Secumum, as the relics these individuals left behind are highly sought after prizes.
