Moors of Dallen

Eldrinmarsh, also known as the Moors of Dallen, is a mystical and mysterious landscape nestled in a basin northeast of the Attledurn Slopes in County Navania. Fed by rivers from the slopes, its mist-shrouded moorlands and meandering waterways create an intricate tapestry of marshy wetlands and rugged terrain. With a history steeped in ancient elven reverence and tales of conflict and refuge, Eldrinmarsh remains a haven for those seeking solace amidst whispers of lost treasures and shadowy figures haunting its depths.

Geography

The Moors of Dallen sits nestled in a wide basin, surrounded by low-lying hills and elevated terrain. The basin creates a natural catchment area for water, resulting in the accumulation of moisture and the formation of expansive wetlands.   As moisture from the surrounding hills collects in the basin, it gives rise to vast stretches of mist-covered moorlands. These moors are carpeted with thick, spongy vegetation, including mosses, ferns, and low-lying shrubs adapted to the damp conditions.   Numerous rivers and streams, originating from the nearby Attledurn Slopes, traverse the landscape, weaving intricate patterns across the moors. These waterways meander lazily through the marshlands, creating channels and pools that provide habitat for diverse flora and fauna.   Within the moors, hidden pockets of standing water dot the landscape, forming secluded pools and marshes. These areas are often concealed by dense vegetation and are home to a variety of amphibious creatures, from frogs and newts to more elusive swamp-dwelling creatures.   Amidst the expansive marshlands, there are occasional elevated islands of firmer ground. These islands provide refuge for creatures seeking respite from the soggy terrain and serve as potential sites for settlements or points of interest in the adventurers' journeys.   Along the periphery of the Moors of Dallen, the terrain becomes more rugged, with rocky outcrops and steep cliffs marking the transition between the marshlands and the surrounding hills. These rugged edges add an element of danger and intrigue to the landscape, with hidden caves, precipitous drops, and potential ambush points for unwary travelers.

History

Once, long before the rise of kingdoms and the march of civilizations, the Moors of Dallen were believed to be a sacred site to the ancient elves. It is said that they revered the marshlands as a place of mystical significance, where the boundary between the mortal realm and the Otherworld grew thin.   As the ages passed, various peoples and cultures sought to claim dominion over the land. Tales speak of battles fought and alliances forged, with the Moors serving as both a barrier and a battleground between rival factions.
"In the whispers of the moors, echoes the ancient tale of a land woven with threads of time, where the past dances with the present, and the mists veil the secrets of ages past." - Anonymous
Over time, the marshlands became a haven for those who sought refuge from the conflicts of the outside world. Outcasts, exiles, and seekers of solitude sought solace amidst the mist-shrouded moors, carving out hidden enclaves and settlements amidst the ever-shifting landscape.   Legends tell of lost treasures buried beneath the boggy soil, whispered curses that linger on the lips of those who dare to tread too deeply into the marshes, and the occasional glimpse of shadowy figures haunting the mist.
