Hardingham Keep
Hardingham Keep overlooks Knightstone Bay in Castleport. It is not just the seat of power but also the primary focal point of defense for the county.
Purpose / Function
Hardingham Keep was initially built to provide protection to early settlers in the region and provide a central trade hub. Over the years, as both the town and the castle expanded, it was upgraded to provide a greater capability to the region. Today, the castle and the city's ship building industry both support regional defense as well as counter-piracy operations in the Sea of Nokostead and the Kirsak Strait.
History
When the foundations for Hardingham Keep were first laid, it was little more than a wooden pallisade built with lumber from the surrounding forests. As the populations of Castleport and the nearby towns such as Beachdenn and Fesca began to grow, so, too, did their appeal as piracy targets. In order to protect the populace as well as trade, resources were dedicated to construction of a proper keep.
In 1104, construction began on the foundation of what is now known as Hardingham Keep. The castle was completed in 1112.
It has historically acted as the seat of power for the Count of Castleport, a title which is traditionally passed down according to the rules of primogeniture.
