Shadows in the Harbor Session 28
General Summary
Time's-A-Wastin'!
The party raced towards Hardingham Keep. They knew they only had 10 minutes to run the mile through the crowds and chaos. As they bolted through the alleyways and the thoroughfares, they came across their first challenge: a massive crowd of panicked civilians. Keck charged in and, using his orcish intimidation, boomed a command to the crowd for them to calm down and head to their homes. Miraculously, the crowd stopped, quieted, and looked around. Keck issued the command again. The crowd complied and even made a path for the party to pass through. This took two minutes. A few blocks later, they encountered an injured pirate. He begged for help, his outstretched hand clasping at the air. Damakos wasn't having it. In his eye, the only good pirate was a dead pirate. He raced past with his dagger in hand. The blade sliced the pirate's throat effortlessly and Damakos didn't even notice as the pirate clutched his throat. Some of the party watched on in horror, slightly irritated by the lost ability to gain intelligence on the attackers. Several more blocks flew by in a blur. This time, the party encountered a wounded guard. The party recognized the man as one of the gate guards. He had been cut down by pirates just a few moments earlier. Damakos approached the man, but was unable to heal him. Instead, he comforted the man in his last moments. The guard pleaded to the party to save the city and his body went limp. Damakos closed the guard's eyes and lay him down. This act of kindness cost the party an additional three minutes. As they crested the hill and rounded the castle gate, a group of pirates spotted them. They jumped out and attacked! The party dispatched them with ease and claimed what little pieces of gold they had on their persons. They entered the castle gates. Ahead of them, they could see the main gates had been blown off, leaving charred wood and stone in its wake. The bodies of guards - some dead, some unconscious - could be seen laying all around. These Are Not the Guards You're Looking For
Amongst the carnage, a group of guards could be seen emerging from the keep with an unconscious Viscount Montgomery Silverbane in tow. The party offered to help, but the guards insisted that they get out of the way and let them take the Viscount to a secure location. Damakos felt like something was off about the guards. He noticed that some of them were wearing non-issue buckles while others had earrings. One of them wore a dagger not unlike the pirates they had been fighting carried. Damakos didn't take any chances and he had been keeping time since they used the Eclipse Orb. Time was up. In a heart beat he produced a piece of bat fur and a piece of coal and pointed his finger at the center point of the soldiers. A magical sphere of darkness instantly burst forth from the center. Keck reached in and yanked out the first person he could feel. He threw the guard to the ground and plunged his sword into his chest. A hand reached out from the darkness and grabbed at Keck's shoulder. Out of the corner of his eye, the rogue could see a half-sleave tattoo on the arm which appeared to dance and move. At the same time, a face emerged from the darkness. The man's arm tranformed into a claw covered in red scales and his face transformed into that of a red dragonborn. Wearing a fabulous hat no less. Keck and Tim the Not-so-Tiny and Malark recognized the dragonborn instantly. This was Inkeas Hirash, the pirate captain that fled with Natalya Danamark on the bridge only a few days earlier. He yanked Keck off the discovered pirate and told the rest of the party to disperse, that they weren't here for a fight. The party wasn't having it. The pirates held the Viscount in their possession and they couldn't let them take him. Inkeas ordered his men to take the Viscount to his ship, The Black Doom, and that he would handle the would-be heroes. As they departed, Damakos opened up. Arrows flew, swords clashed, and magic burned. The pirates were all killed, but not before Inkeas nearly killed Keck. As the pirate captain lay dieing, he coughed up blood, proclaiming that he'd done all he could for Zelda Bens and that he would see her in hell."I did everything that bitch Zelda Bens asked of me. Ha! Look what it got me... When you see her, tell I'll see her in hell." - Captain Inkeas HirashThe party attended to their wounded and recovered the Visccount. All around the city, bells and horns could be heard ringing. The battle continued...
