County of Castleport

The County of Castleport is located in the southeast corner of the Truris Kingdom in the Veleta Peninsula. It's home to the coastal town of Castleport and a small ship building industry.

Assets

The County of Castleport is a small one, located on the southeast end of the large island of Oduth. There are five settlements in the County, with the large town of Castleport acting as the seat of government. Most towns are small and contain less than 1000 individuals, but Castleport boasts close to 4000.   The one castle in the county, Hardingham Keep, sits in Castleport where it overlooks Knightstone Bay. Small watch towers made of various kinds of material dot the landscape, mainly providing overwatch of the surrounding seas in the event of pirate attack or other calamitous events.   Castleport itself boasts a reasonably sized shipbuilding industry, while Beachdenn and Oceangate are primarily fishing and lumber villages. Fesca is known for its wines, while Baylight mainly engages in trade and fishing with other coastal towns, helping to provide much of the commercial lifeblood of the county.

Demography and Population

The entire county holds less than 5000 people, with about three quarters being human and the rest consisting of primarily dwarves and half-elves with a smattering of gnomes and elves throughout the region. With Castleport being the capitol, most of the population is concentrated there. Baylight is the second largest town, followed by Beachdenn, Oceangate, and Fesca.

Territories

County Castleport sits primarily on the Veletian Peninsula with the Sea of Nokostead to its west, the Kirsak Strait to its south, and the Halifar Sea to its east. There are five towns and villages located within its borders, with the town of Castleport serving as its capitol.   The northern boundary of the county is demarcated by the left side of the Arching Creek, which is located west of Castleport, and follows the contours of the Barringham Hills to the southern end of Sunrise Cove, which is on the west side of Attleboro Bay.   The Veleta Hills dot the central part of the landscape which is also covered in large part by the Veleta Wood. Both of these features sit east of the freshwater Gilmeny Lake, which serves as the lifeblood of much of the region.   The Howling Peninsula is a small region in the northeast, characterized by rocky east-facing cliffs and the vicious winds that come off the Halifar Sea and into Attleboro Bay. Many travelers and ships have met their demise here because of the sudden and powerful winds that tear through here.   Favron Point is the southern-most part of the peninsula. It is covered in tropical brush and palm trees. Pirates from Garby Haven and other bandits have been known to set up temporary camps in this area and locals are generally told to avoid it.

Agriculture & Industry

While much of the county remains uncultivated, this is due in large part to the strong history and culture tied to aquaculture. All of the settlements within County Castleport are located on the sea and many of its residents arrived in search of fishing areas. That being said, there is a strong but small wine industry located outside of Fesca in the south, and beer is produced in both Castleport and Baylight.   A limited lumber industry, based mainly in Beachdenn and Castleport support the ship building industry also located there. The ships that are produced include a wide variety, including fishing vessels as well as frigates for patrol and defense of the realm.

Trade & Transport

Trade tends to flow in and out of the county via two primary locations: Castleport and Baylight. Castleport's position on Knightstone Bay affords it easy access to the southern port cities of the Truris Kingdom, while Baylight's location on the southern end of Attleboro Bay makes it better positioned to facilitate trade with the eastern cities.    A small but well-maintained network of either cobblestone or unimproved roads connects all of the settlements of Castleport to one another. This allows wine from Fesca to flow up to Beachdenn and onward to Castleport or Baylight, or imported goods and materials from Baylight to reach the citizens of Oceangate.

Forwards, ever forwards.
