Summercamp 2023 Pledge

now

Silver & Pilfer

My goal this year is Silver, aiming for 16 out of 40 prompts. Not too much, but also enough to make myself a bit ambitious. This way I can find some non-Shadowrun energy, as a lot of my Shadowrun work isn't visible which is less motivating.

The Valley of Plenty

My primary focus is the same as during WorldEmber, to give more depth to my PF2 Valley of Plenty setting. I still intend to expand this setting and aim for hosting a short campaign in it next year.

Stormfarers

As secondary focus for prompts that don't work well with the Valley, I have from Summercamp '22 my soft scifi setting Wherever I May Roam. This setting is meant to be a gatherbin of fun ideas that can combine into stories and short campaigns.

Themes

Power

A large part of the setting is how conflict is brewing between the various groups in the Valley, leading the exploration for their own gains. At the same time, more and more people begin to realize there's plenty of threats out there to deal with first.   Will sneaky nobles gain control over the people and take this new land away from the royalty? Will adventures rise up and smite evil plans? Or will the dark terrors hidden deep in the valley rise again, seizing what they have always considered theirs? Time will tell...

Frontier

The Valley is a Frontier in its own right. Geographically, but also socially, while there still are secrets to discover that may help invent new technologies.   Meanwhile, in Stormfarers the geographical and technological frontiers are where the real conflict is.

Relics

What did the previous inhabitants of the Valley leave behind? What about the threats it faced? They may have left a lot of useful things behind, hidden for people to find.   And with Stormfarers, who knows what abandoned ships and fallen bases are out there... Or for that matter, what if a planet had a past civilization?

Communication

Valley

Almost all of the survivors speak the same language, meaning communication is never a problem. Then again, sometimes folks use their own language to deal with annoying eavesdroppers. Communiation is key, though, so briefing logs are constantly written up and duplicated, so that knowledge can be shared as much as possible.   But there was another language in the Valley before. Ancient runes can be found on many an item and in many an important place, not least of all guarding the dead... What do these spell out, how can they reproduced, and what was the reason the previous residents had to use them everywhere? What is the feeling of dread that approaches one as they venture deeper into the Valley...

Stormfarers

When you send millions and millions into space, from a hundred different countries, each group will end up speaking their own language. It's no surprise that over time a lingua franca developed to somewhat unify the various groups and make business easier. Can't always depend on an automated translator after all.   If you want to keep things a secret, best develop a really good code. Pirates, spies, soldiers, all have to find ways to encrypt information while balancing secrecy versus usability.   Speaking of, better get your own retransmitters up in that Hypersea. If you depend on those of others, who knows when someone might end up cutting off your signals. The last thing an invaded planet wants is not being able to call in the cavalry.

Camp Chill

I do intend to take it easy this Summer Camp. Silver is merely a goal, it's not mandatory. I mostly just want to chill and relax, proudly participating in Camp Chill this year! Burning out is forbidden.

Nnie's Camp Chill Guidelines

- Remember the prompts are suggestions, not requirements.

- Write what you're passionate about, leave what you aren't.

- Relax when you feel tired.

- Fight off any pesky brain-squitos trying to make you doubt your work.

- Don't abandon your non-summercamp goals! Write that article you're itching to write, even if it doesn't fit any prompts.

Extra Prep

Turned out Stormfarers didn't have a full meta, only a mini-meta, so I rectified that. Meanwhile I dug up the old map for the Valley and added polygons to it for its main regional categories. I also hid the settlement markers, since those articles now are outdated.

Normally you first get the money, then the power, but maybe this time the other way around?

Love the name "Valley of Plenty", it immediately makes me interested in learning more. Best of luck reaching silver, and may the prompts be forever in your favor!
