Uh, yeah, hello?

Pete is a young male, between 28 and 35, working as your average mid-level corporate drone. He's not particularly good at his job, but not so bad that it requires reprimand, surgical improvement, or more Java. His managers think he's a nice guy; the kind you forget is in the room and always get to last when there's something that you need to assign to people.
He's also one of the most influential figures in Megacorpolis, mostly by accident.

Wait, What?

You heard me.
For reasons unknown, every time Pete makes some sort of social media post, it almost always goes viral - usually after he's stopped paying attention. An off-handed comment about the poor quality meal at a local restaurant has ruined corporations, while even faint praise for a game (or world-building article!) has set off economic booms.

Pete doesn't typically notice most of this. He has a notoriously poor memory, and will frequently forget the details of his various accounts and ways to retrieve them. Instead, he makes a new one, posts a funny cat picture, and the cycle continues.

He also owns a cat, named Bonesy

No one has really put a face to the name, as Pete is pretty shy and never uses his own face on his profiles. It doesn't help that he's a fairly unassuming guy, described by most people as "having a face - you know, with two eyes, a nose, and ears".

Some say, that sounds far too unlikely, and that the mysterious viral sensation is just the Computer in disguise. Which, okay, that's a thought.

And so, unknown to the world and with his notifications turned off, so he misses every mess that he causes, the whims of Pete bring prosperity or ruin upon corporations, starts or ends trends, and single-handedly determine the fate of entire marketing campaign, if he notices them. He's a pretty busy guy, and the boss is really on him to finish those reports.

Perhaps the only entity who does know about Pete is the Computer (concidence?!), and it has largely kept this information to itself.
In some forbidden datavaults, there are references to an biological infohazard - an idea taken shape and form.
