Duke of Trinsk (a.k.a. The Iron Fist in the Velvet Glove, Helmut Von Karstein (The Dancing Doctor))
Manfred Von HughGraven is a Volinskian Aristocrat and Necromancer, originally from Vicksburg. Left outside the gates of Ilserock as an infant, he was taken in by Baron Lothar Von HughGraven and raised as his son.
Growing up as a noble at Ilserock, Manfred was tutored in a wide array of fields including: theology, philosophy, history, etiquette, pugilism, engineering, and the burgeoning science of chirurgeonry. He has an insatiable curiosity regarding complex internal systems of things both living and mechanical. This naturally led to Manfred dabbling in the necromantic magical arts, something his foster father was only too happy to encourage.
Manfred left Volinsk when tensions between Lothar and Duke Herkemer Von HughGraven began to rise and traveled the world, leading a life of adventure. He returned a couple of years later to become a major player in his family drama. When both Lothar and Herkemer were killed in the Battle of Ilserock, Manfred took the Ducal signet and made a claim for the province.
After bolstering support from Duchess Duska Martinova of Thragaphest, Manfred met with a special council that included his cousin Tarquin Von HughGraven, Archmage Amasis Zorin, and Judge Nachtem of the Volinskian High Court. During this council, Tarquin abdicated his right to the throne of Trinsk, Manfred agreed to terms set by the High Court, and Judge Nachtem agreed to raise Manfred to the position of Duke of Trinsk. His Ducal authority is to be reviewed one year after signing the agreement and provided that Manfred can demonstrate that he is working in the best interest of the people of Trinsk, he will be officially recognized by the High Court and The Royal Palace.
Manfred is a frequent companion of Battis Hedgecrook, and General Grak.
