Beast
Beasts are living creatures that can move and eat and breathe. They have minimal intelligence, but many predators have a certain animal cunning that allows them to find and catch food. Beasts have no magical abilities, and no innate capacity for language, though mimickry is common amongst certain groups of birds. Beasts also have no capacity for culture as scholars recognize it, though they frequently form social groups for cooperative survival. Many beasts even form social bonds with sapient creatures as companions.
Beasts are frequently a key part of an area's ecosystem, as the relationships and interactions between predators, prey, and local plantlife can affect the area dramatically over time. Additionally, local wildlife may find itself in competition with sapient creatures and magical beasts for food, lairs, and other resources, which can bring them into conflict or symbiosis with settlements.
