hippopotamus

A hippopotamus is a large, mostly-aquatic, herbivorous mammal native to Khaphtela. It spends most of its time in the river, cooling itself with mud, and comes out on the land at night to graze on grass. They are one of the most dangerous animals in Khaphtela, outstripping even lions and crocodiles.

Basic Information

Anatomy

A hippopotamus has a barrel-shaped body, short, thick legs, almost no body hair, and large jaws with sharp, tusklike teeth on both the top and bottom. Its head is hourglass-shaped with a wide muzzle, and the eyes, ears, and nostrils are positioned at the top of the head to allow it to see, hear, and breathe while almost completely submerged. It has a thick skin that protects it from predators and rival hippopotami, and a short, thick tail.
