horse

A horse is a quadrupedal, hoofed mammal that is commonly used across the world as transportation and a beast of burden. Domestication of horses has assisted many sapient races in their expansion and mastery of the world, from hot-blooded warhorses in times of conflict to more sedate draft horses working the farms, alongside other equines such as the donkey.

There are three basic categories of horse breeds:

  • Draft Horse:
  • Light Horse:
  • Gaited Horse:
  • Warm-blooded Horse
  • Pony:

Basic Information

Anatomy

A horse is a large, quadrupedal mammal built primarily for running. It has solid hooves, unlike other ungulates, and its legs are proportionately slim but very strong, and able to lock in place to allow the horse to sleep standing up. Their teeth are well-suited for grazing, but horses have been known to bite if provoked. Their skull is long, with the ears positioned at the top of the head, and the eyes are sideways-facing. Horses have a long mane of hair that runs down the midline of the back of their neck, and a tail covered in similarly-long hair. A horse's main coat of hair, meanwhile, tends to be shorter, but its thickness depends largely on the breed's natural environment.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Horses have excellent senses of hearing and smell, and a strong fight-or-flight instinct, especially in areas where horses are preyed upon as food.
