Dire bats are giant, aggressive bats that frequently prey on travelers and larger animals, usually attempting to carry them off to be torn apart by the rest of the flock.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Dire bats can grow to be nearly the size of a horse, with a wingspan of 15 feet. Despite their size, they are as lightly built as their smaller cousins, and weigh about 200 pounds. Their ears are huge and triangular, their small eyes tend to be red, and their jaws are filled with sharp fangs. They are covered in shaggy brown fur, and some varieties possess a long tail. Their feet end in hooked claws designed for grasping and holding prey.
