Chromatic Dragonkin

Descendants of Chromatic Dragons

Scattered and somewhat isolated, their gleaming scales mark them as descendants of beings often named evil or horrid, but this is not the life that they have chosen. These people find solace in their colored scales, joining with those that share the same colors, the same horns, and the same danger that can spout from their maw. Amongst the right people, they can make their homes and thrive, hoping to remove themselves from an assumption that they had no part in making.   Chromatic Dragonkin are the descendants of one of the Elder Races and a Chromatic Dragon. Their unique heritage allows them to walk amongst all manner of people and creatures, but their scales can bring judgment as easily as they can bring acceptance. Because of this, these people choose integration or isolation, joining in with the folks of their more humanoid heritage or creating tribes of their Draconic heritage where there are not as bound by assumptions made about the color of their scales.   Currently, Chromatic Dragonkin can be found living throughout the world and are integrated into many societies, but they most commonly make their homes on one of the Zóni called Ullindar. You will find these people in small tribal communities, large cities, and as travelers throughout the world but outside of their home country, it is rare to find gatherings larger than that of a tribe. The largest city on the island of Ullindar is called Fearsome Maw and it is a curious city that shows a highly segregated aspect of their culture where each variety of Dragonkin, not just the Chromatic varieties, has their own sector of the city and their own gate that is used without exception.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Dragonkin are best known for their unique physical traits that confirm their lineage to be that of Dragons, with the only thing left of the other half of their ancestry being their height.   The Draconic heritage of a Dragonkin helps determine their unique physical traits including the color of their scales, the type of damage their scales have developed a resistance to, and what type of weapon they will be able to breathe. Dragonkin also inherit claws, the protectiveness of their scales, and tails from their Draconic ancestors.   Chromatic Dragonkin are often known for their sharp features and their increased physical prowess. While all Dragonkin have impressive strength, those descended from Chromatic Dragons tend to inherit ungodly strength and stamina from their ancestors.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Dragonkin can be found scattered throughout Isekai, but outside of their homeland on Ullindar, these people are often scattered and tend to choose to live amongst other races. Small groups of Dragonkin may appear, but these small groups, considered tribes, rarely number more than fifteen or twenty. They prefer areas where they can mingle with people of the Elder Races, partaking in parts of their heritage that are often masked by the more Draconic traits.   Chromatic Dragonkin, when not living amongst the Elder Races, will often choose to only live with other Dragonkin of their color. It is said that this is one trait inherited from their Chromatic Dragon parents, as Chromatic Dragons rarely live with others outside of their colors. If this separation is not possible, Chromatic Dragonkin will choose to live with other Chromatic Dragonkin but will leave the group if they are to live with Metallic Dragonkin of any color.   Culturally, the various colors of Chromatic Dragonkin vary greatly, much like Dragons do, in the ways they live and socialize. That being said, all colors of Dragonkin, Chromatic and Metallic, can be found on Ullindar, even though they often have dedicated areas per color. It is the safety of this area that brings them together at the Fearsome Maw.

Perception & Sensory Capabilities

Chromatic Dragonkin have inherited a number of physical traits from their Chromatic Dragon ancestors that grant them special capabilities. This includes an increased vision in certain circumstances, increased hearing to that of a well-trained predator, and other abilities that are quite obviously those of a creature that is meant to be an apex predator.   It is also possible for these people to gain traits from the other half of their ancestry, but Draconic ancestry often takes precedence when it comes to perception and sensory traits.

I like the overview of each colour of Chromatic Dragonkin - it really helps give a quick general insight into each one. I feel bad that they are judged for the colour of their scales because of what their dragon ancestors were capable of. Very curious to read more about Fearsome Maw in the future.

I've caught sight of Dragonkin a few times during my time traveling this world. It wasn't until this last read that I begin to understand that they really are a diverse people. A shame they are not willing to mingle with one another because their tribes might benefit from leveraging each of their unique strengths.   Also, I'm holding on to this tome for a while longer. There's more yet for me to read from it. - Nemo, World Traveler
