Purple Dragonkin

Descendants of Purple Dragons

Classrooms echo with the closing of books, scraping chairs, and loud voices mingling. Another day at the academy has come to an end, more knowledge imparted and packed into already full brains. As the others file out and head to their homes, a lone student remains, her purple scales marking her as separate from the Humans and Elves that normally study here. Her eyes follow the lines of her book, continuing past the place where the professor stopped, mouth moving over the words of spells and incantations that they will reach next week. For her kind, everything is about the pursuit of knowledge.   Purple Dragonkin are the descendants of one of the Elder Races and a Purple Dragon. These people have genius-level intelligence that allows them to study anything and everything that they can get their hands on. Their daily lives are built upon the quest for knowledge and how that knowledge may help their people and anyone else they so choose.   Above all else, these people respect knowledge and its pursuit. This is their defining purpose, using their knowledge to help all they can. In many ways, the Purple Dragonkin are much like the Scholars that built the great academies of the Elves and Dwarves, forever looking for the next tidbit or fact that will propel them forward, but much like many other Chromatic Dragonkin, these people bring their own downfall. The ego of Chromatic Dragons is a constant, twisting social situations away from their favor.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Purple Dragonkin share some specific traits with their Draconic ancestors that prove their ties to the Purple Dragons. Their facial features are sharp, defined by a ragged jawline and a scaled crest on their head. A smaller set of horns and a long, ridged tail as well as large muscular bodies are also common in Purple Dragonkin.   All Dragonkin inherit sharp claws, extremely strong and protective scales, as well as a breath weapon that they can use. Some of these traits are affected by the color of the Dragonkin as the many varieties of Dragons also vary greatly in their abilities. Purple Dragonkin have a resistance to magic that affects the mind while their breath weapon creates a wave of psychic power that renders weak-minded creatures inert and others stunned.   Common Colorations

Additional Information

Social Structure

Purple Dragonkin are often considered geniuses, with intelligence far greater than their peers. This often causes many issues when attempting to integrate into various societies as these people have a difficult time leaving their ego out of their dealings. Because of this, Purple Dragonkin tend to live in villages of their own color or with Pink Dragonkin, but it is rare to see them mingling with other societies. That is not to say that other societies do not keep Purple Dragonkin as advisors or other aides, but these people do not live within the societies that they help.   It is quite common to find these people in small villages near to the largest cities of the various countries and kingdoms of the world. Areas with magic academies or other schools are common locations for the Purple Dragonkin to build their homes as it allows them to easily expand their knowledge base. Pink Dragonkin also call these places home and often serve as guides to social situations so that ego and intelligence do not interfere with a possible opportunity.
