Larani Army

The Larani Army, the Ground Forces, and the Navy combined. This mighty force is Laran's military might, and yet it is a fraction of the power it can bring to bear.

Legions are given a number, as to what number legion they are, and then a name based on who they are succeeding, leading to Legion Dynasties. Many legions, such as the  earn nicknames to commend them. Notable Legions Are...

The 32nd Stoneborn is an ancient Legion. Due to the hotbed of conflict which was the early PKR era, many famous ones were decimated and disbanded. The 32nd Stoneborn, which had been around since the days of Mul-Zamain, thrived. Even more impressive, they have yet to be annihilated, despite fighting in the Armageddon Branch since the start of conflict there. The entire Legion is made up of Muratti who have carved themselves to resemble humanoid wolves.

The 85th Frostbourne come from the Ice planet of . It's a wintery hellhole, where the warmest part of the planet, the equator, is frozen year-round. IN such frigid conditions, its no wonder the Frostbourne Legions have become so extremely resilient. While cold weather is their specialty, the Frostbourne Legions can withstand any brutal environments, often sent to support failing legions in hostile ecosystems. Due to the size & population fo the planet, there are rarely more than 4 Frostbourne Legions active, and the environments they get sent to whittle them down fairly quickly. In times of extreme conflict, many veterans within the Legions will have been part of many throughout their tenure. Currently, the Frostbourne Legions in operation are the 176th, the 179th, and the 203rd. It is truly a testament to the hardiness of the 85th that they have lasted so long.

The 57th Charybdis come from the water world of  (Meta: Yes, I know. I'm not subtle), a relatively new world on the Larani Wild Space frontier. The Legion Dynasties of the planet are famous for their water operations, with Legions such as the 42nd Kisrar and the 2nd Anglers, also known as the Ambushers, being famous for their aquatic missions. The 57th Charybdis are especially renowned for their scorched earth tactics, and their infiltration techniques, having just the right tool and skill set to pull off successes on water worlds.

The 20th Dragonflies are a complete mystery, with only the Laka of War and their immediate commanders knowing anything more of their existence than the fact that they exist. Even among many high ranking Lati the Dragonflies are an urban legend. There is no record of their ever being precursor Dragonfly Legions, and often the only record of their existence is a small footnote in official documents which lists "Possible assistance from the Dragonflies". It is suspected not even half of their victories are properly credited to them, and most Achroni intelligence officials doubt their existence, with one investigation reporting their existence to be naught but terror tactics by Larani propaganda. Regardless of their veracity, those who do know the legends can attest to the Dragonflies' knack for infiltration, subterfuge, and playing the Long Game.

Structure

The Larani Army is run by the Laka of War, currently Zhan Zheng. It has two command structures, one for Lati, who theoretically all have authority over the second, the one for Lerin. In practice, a low or even middle ranking Lati won't supercede the authority of a high ranking general or admiral. The Lati command structure is just the Lati titles and power bases, so it won't be outlined here. For the second one which will, it is important to note that each rank is broken into 4 segments, with someone like a First Captain having authority over the Third Captain. Each rank also has an Army Version, and a Navy Version, who have authority over each other only in their respective fields. The exception to the four-segment breakdown is the Footman rank.

  • A General is the commander of all Larani forces, roughly equivalent to a Warlord, only under the thumb of a Lati. A General for ground forces is referred to as a General while a naval general is referred to as an Admiral. A First General commands several Legions and/or an entire fleet.
  • A Major is the Commander of a Legion or a batch of Centuries and/or a frigate to a destroyer group, depending which level Major the officer in question is.
  • A Centurion will command anywhere from 10 to 50 Faiob, to an entire Century and/or a corvette group to a destroyer group, depending on Centurion level.
  • A Fasulcar or Captain will command anywhere from 1 to 10 Faiob and/or one corvette and a fighter squad. A Third and Fourth level Captain is referred to as a First or Second Lieutenant, but they aren't different enough to differentiate.
  • A Footman is a common soldier, equivalent to Private.

When it comes to division, the Army is divided into Legions, each of which fall under the command of a Lati Dynasty or powerbase. Each Legion is made up of anywhere from One to Twenty Centuries, depending on its size. Each Century, also known as a Company, is made up of anywhere from Ten to One Hundred Faiob. Each Faiob is made up of Ten to Twenty Footmen. This leaves the maximum number of soldiers in a legion at 40,000, and the minimum at 100. If a Legion ever falls below 100, they are disbanded, their place in history halted forever. A new Legion is then formed to fill the army requirement. More Legions have been annihilated fighting in the Long War than any other conflict combined.

The Navy stops dividing after the Faiob, as the minimum number of people required to operate a Corvette is 100. A Legion's airforce is technically a separate thing from the ground force, but most Legions have an attached fleet which has become synonymous with that legion. A fleet has no maximum force limit but instead has a ratio requirement. In accordance with the Lanklin Doctrine, each fleet must have, for every capital ship (Cruisers, Carriers, Battleships, Battlecruisers) there must be at least five Destroyers. For every Destroyer, there must be at least 3 frigates of varying size and power. For every frigate, there will be 10 corvettes, and for every corvette, there should be 10 fighter wings, spread throughout every ship in the fleet.

Titans, Dreadnoughts, and Super-Dreadnoughts are restricted to One, Three, and Three per fleet. This assures that resources are not overcommitted to one fleet.

One entire fleet can generally carry about five Legions per capital ship, as each Destroyer Group can support and transport one, and all its armor and supplies.

Culture

The Larani Military breeds a culture of regimen and professionalism. Most of those who serve as Second Fasulcar or higher lose the religious attitude held about the Lati, working with far too many Lati and Adepts to maintain their illusions.

Public Agenda

The Larani Militaries Public Agenda is to conquor all for Laran,

They have access to everything provided to the Laka of War.

Technological Level

The Larani Fleet is not particularly advanced, still completely relying on Adepts and stored Kali Energy to power the ships, and Adepts to navigate it. It is, in every respect, worse than the Achroni navy, however, advancement is halted due to Larani myopia and egoism. The army on the other hand is far more advanced. Crysalis Firearms can disable an enemy soldier in one glancing shot, and their armour can often completely reflect and block Achroni laser blasts. Their armour is better as well, as Quri-Tul Runes provide warding and a near finite source of power, allowing the attached weaponry to do its job.

The artillery has less of an edge but still a significant one. The corruption caused by Crysalis shots can infect an area's ecology, and make it impossible to inhabit. The force at which the shots can be pushed can also punch completely through a ship, or into a planet's crust. This will significantly drain the Kali Energy powering the tech, but a strong, well placed shot can achieve what a hundred weaker ones couldn't.

Religion

The Lati worship is done away with. The faithful can still observe their religion, but it should never get in the way of official duties. In regards to Lati, they usually serve as Fasulcar or other officers. Lati will also lead groups of Adepts as Black Ops or shock troops.

The internal court of the military is fairly simple. Any Second Major or higher, as well as any Lati are allowed to execute anyone who disobeys them. It doesn't happen often, more likely the offending soldier will receive a demotion or a flogging, but it outlines how the Judicial system works.

One of the most common Century to Legionwide punishments, usually for consistent failure, is to violently butcher one Footman from each Faiob. The officers are not spared, as many can and are chosen by the punishing superior.
