Warlord
The celebrity generals of Achronis' armed forces, the Warlords and their Warlord Dynasties are renowned and feared throughout the known rift. The power they hold is immense, and one must be careful when crossing a Warlord and their Warband.
Qualifications
To be appointed Warlord, a prospector must be a general or admiral and have proven themselves at least somewhat adept at commanding the other branch of the military. Familial connection is not required, but there is a reason that Warlord Dynasties tend to pop up. They must also be confirmed by a committee formed within the War Council to judge Warlord Qualifications.
Appointment
A person is appointed once they have been approved by the War Council committee. There is no official procedure after they are granted the title, but tradition dictates celebration. This usually involves parades in the capital sector of the sector group their army will be protecting, a large procession of the armed forces as well. If the Warlord is creating a new Warband, all the commanders of the regiments which will form the new Warband will present ceremonial sabers to the new Warlord. If they are inheriting a Warband from another Warlord, say their parents, grandparents, or someone else, the Warlord will present a ceremonial saber to the new Warlord, as a passing of the torch message.
Duties
A Warlord's duties are to, with their warbands and armies, police their assigned sectors. Many are called to the frontlines to fight in the many wars Achronis is mired in, mainly the Long War. When this happens, they leave a percentage of their armies, generally 10% -20% to police their home sectors, and take the rest to their assigned post on the front lines. They are to command their men, inspire them and the Achroni populace, and defend the Republic.

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal
Warlords can be impeached by the War Council, for misconduct, or excessive conflict with their peers. Otherwise, they usually retire from the job, passing on the title to their successor.
History
Warlords have existed since the Mythric Era, a relic of the old Dromespo Houses, but it wasn't until the OJC Era and the discontent among the remaining Warlords that the title as it's known today was established. Warlords, Warlord Dynasties, and the Warbands they lead can be traced throughout Achronis' history, their successes & failures, decimations & revivals.
Cultural Significance
As stated previously, Warlords are cultural heroes, celebrities. Every Achroni citizen has strong opinions about at least one Warlord, whether they disapprove of the job their's is doing, or they adore the neighboring Warlord. Nameless also tend to become Warlords, increasing the ties between the Nameless and Achronis.
Notable Holders
There are far too many Warlords to count, so instead this will document notable Warbands.
The Alexandros Warband was founded by , one of the most famous Warlords of Achronis. They have won countless victories, to the point where Laran has dedicated the resource output of entire planets to eradicating and assassinating the Alexandros Warband and its Warlords, who seem to have inherited their ancestor's skills in battle and in leading an army.
To repeat an old Achroni proverb, "nȍwowha̋ minzop tin punnukoúkoú wu nȍcicnȅ" (Eventually a blind man hits his target), and Laran's blind man did the same. In the early years of the PKR Era, Laran sent every bounty hunter and Legion they could spare after the Alexandros Warband, eradicating it and capturing the last of the Alexandros lines. They were able to do this because the Pame'a Crisis had trapped them behind enemy lines. The current Alexandros descendants are being kept as the prisoners of House Zamain, and many in Achronis call for their rescue, even after near half a millennium.
The Khan Warband is another legendary warband within Achronis. Founded by , the Khan Warband's ruling Warlord is often a matter of furious debate, as the descendants of the first Khan's four sons all argue for its incorporation in their own dynasty's Warband. It tends to alternate to the service of his third son's Warlord Dynasty and his Second Daughter's Dynasty. The Warband itself is known for its brutality, specializing in razed earth tactics. They disconnect themselves from their supply liens once they've punched through the frontlines, and then live off raiding and pillaging. Despite the War Council's protests, it is an open secret that they employ Bioweapons to raze any planets they raid.
The Jacum Pajinjko Warband, also known as the Moon Riders, is a warband famous for its rivalry with the of the Gold Viper. Both have stupidly high success rates, and over the centuries, their conflicts with one another always end in a draw at worst, and both succeeding in their objectives at best. This warband always has a Nameless Warlord, who attributes this relationship as "The will of The Nameless", an explanation which satisfies no one but other Nameless.
