Ethuil

The last town in Anfalas. Named for the spring of the River Herrir.

Ethuil has become very overcrowded - it has little space and every plot has been built upon and filled in until there is little space left. The Street passes east-to-west through the town and its marketplace and is the only thoroughfare that will take a wagon - and only allows wagons to pass every so often. n.b. The Street does continue past Ethuil, but about five miles further on, becomes too steep to pass with a wagon or cart.

Government

The town is administered by a Mayor, a post that is elected every four years on midsomer's day.

Language

The town is administered in the Common Speech.

Defences

The wall about the town is a huge, drystone wall - nearly 30 feet thick and 45 feet high. Some of the stones are over 10 tons in weight and how they were placed where they are is not clear. The only two gates are square with lintles made of single giant stones that give short narrow entrances of just 7' wide.

Industry & Trade

The remote location of the town means that the town is poor. It is supported by the need to produce practical goods and services for the migratory Dunlending and has found a niche producing manuscripts, illuminations and written documents.

The richest inhabitants of the town are a furrier (who ships his goods down-stream), a jeweller (specialising in the Dunlending style, the miller, a physician and the two innkeepers.

The town was also the main supplier of arms and armour to the County of Herrir. The nearby Dwarven Mine supplies the town with good quality metal, and there is a group of smiths that take this plentiful bounty and transform it into various forms that can be sold on locally or exported.

The appearance of the Dragonlands has badly disrupted trade downstream and the most lucrative markets are suddenly inaccessible.

Infrastructure

The town is crossed, east-to-west by The Street, Ethuil. In the centre there is a Marketplace and the remainder of the town is criss-crossed by tiny (radial) alleys and the (circular) paths. At one time these were wide enough to pass two wagons, but, over time, the population has encroached and the routes have become choked and are now barely wide enough to pass two people in some places - while other parts survive as small squares.

The town is supplied with multiple wells for its water supply. Sewerage is removed, daily in chamber-pots.
