The Sultanate of Selwen
Among the arid lands and rolling sands of the Eutshan Expanse lies the Sultante of Selwen. Selwen is a nation of wealth, faith, and magic. Populated by ‘Sun Elves’, the people of the Sultanate are some of the most educated and gifted in the arcane arts. Grand temples, schools and city are scattered through its lands, showing a hint of its culture and society
Culture
Selwen are a very traditionalist people, yet are also known for celebrations. They have strong desire for knowledge and a link to the arcane. Thier schools tend to be some of the most renown in all of Gromlin. They do tend to look at the other races as uneducated and uncouth. They are a prideful nation. Their tastes are extravagant and lavish, with a strong distaste for anything they find subpar. To other nations this tends to be taken as arrogant and garish. Selwen is aware of its reputation but believes if the other just raised their standards, they would understand.
When a new baby is born to a Selwen family, it is a celebration. Various ceremonies and parties are held in honor of the newborn as well as the mother. During this time the mother to is held in high regard. Once the child is born, a naming ceremony is held. This tends to be a very prominent and important occasion. This ceremonies tend to have strong religious connections as the new life represents hope.Selwen holds a Jubilee for the monarch every century. During which time people from all over Gromlin come to celebrate. It is normally tradition for the monarch to hand over the reigns of power to their heir before their death. Every 50 years a ceremony is held with priests of Ether to determine when that should be. This tradition does normally extend the rest of the nobilities.
Public Agenda
For the past several centuries Selwen has been focusing more on the spiritual help on the nation while still pursuing arcane arts. The varius temples having taken more prominant roles in cities across the nation.
While they have remain more defensive, their recent scientific breakthroughs have made them more of a dominant power, that has made their neighbor across the mountians nervous.
History
Selwen was the first to colonize Gromlin. In recent history they have become, as they refer to themselves, beacons of knowledge and advancement. This elven Kingdom has a long and honored history, marked by arcane entaglement and their complicated relationship with the Epheryn Dynasty. They have made great innovations in both the arcane and technological.
Historcally allies with the Kingdom of Raelon, Selwen has usual taken a more reserved route to meet its goals than the more rash human kingdom.
Demography and Population
A Population of around six hundred thousand, mostly comprised of elves, with minority populations of Dragonborn, humans, and more.
Military
The Selwen military is adorned in white and gold. They have some of the mightiest of cavalry of all Gromlin and even have whole regiments of wizards and other magic users. Officers come from nobility. Their newest work of technology and magic, Flying Ships, will prove to be a powerful force.
Technological Level
Selwen is likely the most technologically advanced nation on Gromlin. The Sultante has a many wonders of both arcane and scientific design. Recently Selwen annouced the newest advancement; flying warships. A few of their larger cities also have arcane cannons and magic runes to help them.
Religion
The national religion is based around the worship of Nydra the goddess of hope. She is the patron deity of royal family. Other deities are allowed to be worship as long as they are not in conflict with Nydra. Other popular deities would be Emos god of time, Ether goddess of prophecy, Hidum god of dawn, Oldione goddess of music, and Meborh god of nobility. On occasion there have been found small and secret sects that worship deities in opposition to the patron ones. When this occurs the Order of Light is sent in. Rumors have spread that in recent years that the Order has increased the number of investigations.
Foreign Relations
The Sultante has long been allies with the Kingdom of Raelon, often protecting or aiding eachother, especially against the Empire of Plutoria.
It has a long and bitter relationship with the Epheryn Dynasty, the only thing that keeps them from constant war is the Empire of Plutoria.
While the Sultante and the United Clans of Mirathis are not exactly allies, they have had a long standing and honored trade agreement setup between them. So they will often so to the others interest when neceary.
Laws
Crime levels are relatively low. Punishments tend to be extend periods of time incarceration. Justice tends to be given to each city and it’s watch to take care of. Juries are chosen from the community to determine guilt. Much of the higher ranking law officials use magic to ensure the truth is spoken in courts and interrogation.
Agriculture & Industry
With the barren lands of Selwen, farmlands are few and far between, making the few the that do dot the land important parts of the nations health. Despite this, the nation is in a fine state, with a strong econemy and system set up and supplement by strong magic. Much of the industry happens in the cities or is bought and brought in. Some cities even specialize in the creation of magical items or othert arcane based trade.
Trade & Transport
Selwen will gladly trade with every nation, even ones that it has strong rivalries with. It uses the major roads and its shipping lanes as a primary source of trasport for good, though on a smaller scale there will be some businesses and individuals will use arcane means of transit. However now with the recent advancement of flying ships, it is hoped they will soon become availabe for commercial use.
Education
The Selwenese are some if the most educated people on the continent. Several schools are built across ctites, private tuturs are available to all and higher education is strongly encouraged. As a result, many of the population has a basic understanding of mathematics, art, and even the arcane arts.
Infrastructure
With the arid climate of Selwen, much of the population resides in the larger cities, with very few smaller communities. The major roads are well maintained and the vast mojority of the cities stick near the coast and forested areas. Much of the cities are maintained by use of magic.
Mythology & Lore
Religion in Selwen is an important part of the culture in the Sultante. While there is no offical religion, there are accepted and discourgaed deites to worshiped.
Tenets of Faith
While religon for the most part is open and free, and there is no national religion, there are taboos that are often persecuted by the majority of the populace. Many of the laws of the nation are based on the tennets of the "Prime Deities". Worship of gods that oppose thier main deities is a perfect example of the kind of behavior that will get you into trouble.
Priesthood
One of the most respected and honored priesthoods of the nation are the Oracles. They are the ones who preform the ceremony during the Jubile, to see if the monarch must step down. While they are not a large priesthood, it is a renown one.
Sects
There is a sect that is growing in popularity among the worshipers of Hidum: the Order of Light. The Order is a military order of inquisitors and crusaders, they have been formally recognized by by many of the local settlements and begun to be used as a type of guard.

Selwen makes the majority of its income from refining and then selling the raw resources that is brought in. Though one thing it tends to excell at is selling its magical talents, either as services or enchanting things for the other kingdoms.
Major Imports
There is a major need for some of the morebase resources which it can then refine. Food being a primary one, that it recieves from Raelon to supplement their own farms. However one of its more important import of late come from the United Clans of Mirathis. This would be the crystals that have anti-gravity properties, that Selwen use to create the famed flying ships.
