Praemark

Often seen as a man dressed in fine clothing with arcane glyphs in the cuffs, and cloak. Some think he is an aristocratic intellectual, while others a wise old wizard.   Praemark and his followers are dedicated to the study and advancement of the magical arts. The are many universities that follow his methods of teaching, each one dedicated to a different school of magic. There they hone their skills, perfecting the art of arcana, hoping to match his skill in just one of the schools.   Praemark is believed to utterly master all forms of magic, and even go on to create and change the very nature of magic. He acts as a type of philosopher or mathmatician when it comes to the arcane arts and many of his teachings talk of the dangers of magic if used poorly   Many believe that Mahdis was once an apprentice of Praemark. Mahdis sought to learn more of the more dangerous magic of Necromancy, which Praemark, forbade. Praemark believed that Necromancy was too dangerous for his pupil to handle. What transpired next is contested by many scholars, but the majority believe Praemark locked many of his spellbooks away in Emos’ library. Mahdis broke into the library and stole as many books as he could. Ever since the two have been at odds.   Legends tell that each of the major schools holds one of Praemark’s Legendary spellbooks. Those that survive reading the pages are named masters of the art and headmaster of their individual school.   He is in direct opposition to Mahdis, and is not a friend to Randall or Izmus.

This is the most common symbol and is seen often around the schools of magic.   The Staff of Praemark A staff wrapped in glowing runes, with a crystal embedded in the head of the staff. It signifies the responsible wielding of arcane power. The highest ranking members of the faith and the heads of the school all carry ones that are supposedly made from fragments of Praemarks own staff.   The Infinite Rings A set of nine interlocking rings inscribed with runes, each symbolizing a different school of magic. This is said to symbolize the interwoven nature of magic, intellect, and discipline. Each School will display this symbol, but with that schools ring more emphasized.

Tenets of Faith

Master the Weave with Discipline “Magic is neither a toy nor a weapon; it is an art, a science, and a way of life. Treat it with respect, and it will yield great power; misuse it, and it will consume you.” Those who follow Praemark must study magic with discipline. They are to practice magic responsibly and strive to attain mastery in a single school of magic, understanding its depths before moving on to the next. Avoid Reckless Magic: Users of magic are to avoid spells or magical actions that are too dangerous or chaotic—the pursuit of raw power without wisdom is a path to ruin.   The Mind is the True Source of Power “The most powerful magic lies within the mind. Only when your mind is clear, focused, and disciplined can you hope to unlock the greatest of spells.” Followers are encouraged to cultivate their minds, through study, meditation, and mental discipline. Those who focus solely on magical ability without mental clarity may become consumed by magic. Inner Peace: Just as magic requires focus and control, so too does the mind. Followers of Praemark often practice mental exercises to maintain inner calm and sharpen their intellect.   Respect the Limits of Magic “Magic can shape the world, but it cannot overcome nature’s laws. The more you seek to control, the more you risk breaking the world around you.” Praemark’s followers are taught that while magic is powerful, it cannot defy natural law. Overzealous manipulation of magic can have disastrous consequences. Defy Nature at Your Own Risk: Those who try to change the fundamental laws of existence—resurrecting the dead, bending time, or reshaping reality—are seen as betrayers of Praemark’s teachings.   Rituals   The Meditation of the Infinite Weave A ritual to experience the interconnectedness of all magic and to sense the flow of the Weave, the network of magical energy that connects all things. In this meditative trance, the practitioner may experience visions of magical connections—the interrelation of arcane powers and how all magic is one.   The Ritual of the Arcane Prism A ritual to develop a deeper understanding of magical theory and increase one’s ability to manipulate different types of magical energy by aligning one’s personal magic with the natural elements. The practitioner chants a prayer to Praemark, invoking the elements.   The Aegis of the Eternal Scholar This ritual is done by those who seek divine protection and be granted wisdom for those embarking on dangerous magical journeys, such as seeking forbidden knowledge or investigating a powerful magical artifact. The practitioner dons a cloak and stands in front of a ritual altar. They dip a quill into enchanted ink and begin drawing the Sigil of Protection on their cloak. With the sigil glowing faintly on their cloak, they are ready to face the challenges ahead.
