The Kingdom of Phoveil

Situated in the heavily wooded lands in the northwest of Gromlin, Phoveil is a collection of city-states, druidic tribes, and nomadic tribes that roam the forests. The most isolationist of the Kingdoms, Phoveil struggles to maintain ties to the outside world.

Culture

The people of Phoviel are a very spiritual people, both in terms of religion and more elemental spirits. It is this spirituality that has greatly affected the balance of life in the kindomw and relations with its neighbors. They are a very peaceful people, money is not as important to them as the other nations, and they are not a materialistic people. Their home are formed from the surrounding lands using the druidic crafts when possible, the buildings looking elegant and flowing. The island people tend to be a bit more gruff and guarded than the rest of their people however, creating an almost entirely seperate culture.

Public Agenda

The Kingdom of Phoviel tends to more isolationist, but also detest the other nation's conflicts thinking it upsets the balance. They will often act mediators for peace agreements and diplomatic treaties. They have a long standing friendship with the Empire of Plutoria, often being their friendly face when the Empire needs to convey with the other nations.

History

Much of Phoviel’s history is transferred through stories, many times you will get a variety of different tellings of the events. What is known as fact they keep in their grand library in Resanore. Almost every major conflict; the peace was finally brokered thanks to Phoviel, even in wars they had no part in. History has noted an odd relationship with Phoviel and Plutoria. Perhaps because of their basic nature, Phoviel has treated Plutoria with trust. However Plutoria has returned this trust, usually calling on them to act as intermediaries.

Demography and Population

If a census was ever taken for the various city states in Phoveil, it would be confusing and likely misleading to an outsider, as they would more likely include beings that the other nations wouldnt include, such as more monsterous citizen and even awoken animals.

Territories

While its borders arent as clearly defined, most of the north western continient fall within its sphere of influence. The Crystaline Islands are among some of its more remote territories, and it is considered a more dangerous domain compared to the other provinces.

Military

Despite their peaceful nature, Phoveil's soldiers are fierce and skilled fighters. They produce some of the best irregular troops in all of Gromlin as well as some of the best sailors. Their ships are incredibly fast and surprisingly durable. Aside from the navy, their numbers tend to be very low until Phoveil comes under threat, then any invading army finds themselves under constant attack from guerilla fighters and even the land turning against them.   The Glade Guard, also police force, is the only standing army that Phoveil acting as its primary defence ouside its naval forces. The Glade Guard excel at guerrilla warfae, ambushes, and lightning strikes. However they have never been known to leave the forests of Phoveil, thus their numbers are hard to calculate. It is also of note that the few times that elements of the Glade Guard have been caught out in the open, they often are defeated or scattered.

Technological Level

When it comes to technology, Phoveil is a bit falling behind nations like Raelon or Selwen. If this is a problem for Phoveil, however, it doesnt seem to bother them. Instead the people of Phoveil tend to be more reserved and spiritual, relying more on magic and nature.

Religion

The main deity of the region is Jophion the goddess of nature. Many druid tribes plant a large oak tree as a tribute to her. Others keep private gardens as personal shrines. The weather rarely is taken for granted, especially with the more religious. The other god that is widely worshipped in Phoveil would Jophion’s brother Telos god of the sea. Telos worshipers tend to be more gruff than the rest of Phoveil and is usually only worshiped around the Crystaline Islands and the shores of the mainland.

Foreign Relations

Phoveil has prided itself on remaining neutral in all matter of foreign policy. It is an rival or enemy to no one. It is surprising then that it is considered a strong friend of the Empire of Plutoria.

Laws

The laws of Phoveil are lenient compared to the other nations of Gromlin. However the few crimes they enforce more severly, are the ones involving the nature and the animals within its borders. Hunting and deforestation is heavily regulated. There is an orgnizationn of secret police exist within its borders to safeguard the communities against roaming bandits or other such dangers. Its navy acts to police as their waters and islands, these forces are known as the Glade Guard, who act as enforcers, investigators, and an elite military orginization.

Agriculture & Industry

Both industry and agriculture would be considered poor by a nation like Selwen or Leagalla, yet this seems to work for Phoveil, using magic to supplement their needs. This has lead to some to call them ludites, this would be inaccurate. Instead it would be wiser to say they are cautious and slow to change.

Trade & Transport

Trade with the Kingdom of Phoveil is treated on community by community basis, creating an intricate web of relations not only with foreign powers but internal politics as well.

Education

There is no nation wide school or education system. Citizens tend to be taught by village elders, experts or parental figure. The focus of much of their education being survival, and sustainability.

Infrastructure

There is a winding network of roads among the forests, with only a few that are well maintained. The kingdom also uses the natural enviroment to help maintain their infrastructure and defenses.

Tenets of Faith

It is extremely common for a family to take a wild animal as a pet to care for and eventually release back into the wild, yet they cannot take a young animal from its family.. It is bad luck for anyone to trade in live animals. Many of the druidic tribes send out scouts every few years to keep a tab on each other and the rest of Gromlin. During this time they choose a young warrior to be sent. If he returns with a completed journey, he is celebrated as a local hero.

Ethics

While all faiths are accepted within the kingdom, the official deities are Jophion and Telos with Jophion being the more widely followed.

Worship

How each person expresses their faith is deeply personal to the people of Phoveil. While there are common forms of worship and devotion, usualy variations on the methods fluctuate from community to community.
