The Tradition of the Blaze begins in Phoviel
For centuries the forests of the Phoviel were carefully guarded, to the point that the Glade Guard would attack any loggers that attempted to deforest even a small section of the woods. However it became clear that the wildlife became choked from the overgrowth. Corruption even started to take root amongst some of the oldest trees. Eventually the source of the corruption and after dealing with it, a new ritual was set in place. Every one hundred years a section of the forest that was overgrown is carefully set ablaze. This controlled fire purifies the area and allows new life to grow from the ashes.
Phoviel had been a protector of many forests but their own had begun to become overgrown. It is with a heavy heart that Queen Basila, orders what would become known as the Blaze. She had her druids evacuate as many creatures from the designated area, then set the wood on fire. They kept the fire under control and watched it carefully for any creatures still trapped. Many tribes watched in sadness and the Queen wept openly. Yet after the fire was extinguished and the forest was allowed to regrow, it was healthier and grander. Seeing that the Blaze kept the forest healthy, the Queen set down a tradition that once a year the Queen would select a forest to be reborn. It is always considered a solemn occasion and many tribes gather to help keep the Blaze under control.
