Sultan Jorvan Shields took the throne after the unexpected death of his brother, Sultan Aran Shields in a jousting match. This was, by all accounts the worst ruler to ever take power in all of Gromlin. In the beginning he seemed nothing more than a tad eccentric, yet as he aged so did his grasp of reality. He began to see enemies everywhere, he abolished laws based on dreams, created more that were beyond understanding, and dissolved trade agreements based on random signs. Toward the end of his reign he became violent. He had political enemies killed in horrid public displays and began seizing territory from his neighbors. War was averted however, as a small group fought their way into the palace and slew him. The only survivor was a cleric of Ether, who the government thanked and named him high priest. Since Sultan Jorvan’s reign a ceremony was put in place to help the kingdom move to a new sovereign when needed.
