Death Dragons

Death Dragons, sometimes called Dracoliches or Undead Dragons, are dragons that have embraced undeath. Death Dragons are not born, rather created similar to a lich. Any type of dragon can become a Death Dragon, this process can be undergone willingly, or a Dragon can be forced to become a Death Dragon by those who wish to control it.   It is said that Death Dragons are capable of corrupting dragon eggs, producing newborn Death Dragons to bolster their ranks, though this claim has not been proven.   Death Dragons are usually intelligent, calm, patient and resilient, those who aren’t, don’t last long. Death Dragons are known to join forces with other Death Dragons or even share lairs with multiple other Death Dragons. They will often work together as a cabal, pooling their necromantic power to raise stronger and more powerful undead creatures than they could manage on their own. As they don’t need to feed, and kill only to further their necromantic research, Death Dragons rarely venture out of their lairs, happy to hide away from the world.   Death Dragons usually avoid head on fights, instead fighting with Necromantic magic and a devastating necrotic breath weapon when they are backed into a corner.

Appearance:

Looking like gaunt, skeletal carcasses, Death Dragons bear an unnatural glow in their mostly empty eye sockets. Since they are created through necromancy, the dragon’s brood is a strange amalgamation of skeletal Dragons from other broods.

Element:

Death Dragons are associated with necrotic energy which they can exhale as a deadly breath attack.

Lair:

Death Dragons make their lairs anywhere they can, commonly using the one they had in life. Death Dragons covet necromantic research and dark magics as well as whatever they collected in life.
