Doom Dragons

Doom Dragons, sometimes called Topaz Dragons or Decay Dragons, are one of the five species of Psionic Dragons (Gem Dragons). Unlike other True Dragons, Psionic Dragons are omnivores that can sustain themselves on cosmic energy for long periods of time without needing to eat, allowing them to survive in the far reaches of the Astral Sea. They also have innate Psionic abilities and telepathy. The Psionic Dragons are believed to embody cosmic forces, similarly to the Primordial deities. Doom Dragons are believed to embody death and the inevitable end of all things. Doom Dragons tend to be morbid and curmudgeonly, they dislike company and grow irritated when disturbed. They usually enjoy complaining, have an abrasive demeanour, and morbid interests. Doom Dragons often contemplate death and the end of creation. While they are generally not malicious, Doom Dragons understand that death and destruction are a natural means of clearing the way for new creation and growth, because of this they will often destroy crumbling structures and exterminate diseased plants and animals without much care for their significance.

Appearance:

Doom Dragons are quadrupedal with thin membranes for wings. They are quite thin in shape with a long neck and an exceptionally long tail. Instead of scales their bodies are crystal-like, translucent and faceted, resembling the bright yellow or rich amber of topaz gems. A Doom Dragon’s psionic power manifests visibly in the gem-like spines that hover in a ridge from the crown of their head to the tip of the tail. Doom Dragons begin their lives with a cloudy dull yellow colouring and smooth bodies, gradually gaining their translucent colouring and hard, geometric bodies as they age.

Doom Dragons possess psionic powers and can release a wave of yellow necrotic energy as a breath weapon that saps the strength of creatures caught in it.

Lair:

Doom Dragons make their lairs in the most isolated places within the Astral Sea. Whether it's in a cave on a distant exoplanet or in the core of an asteroid, the only stipulation for a Doom Dragon’s lair is that they must be as far away from any other living thing as possible. Doom Dragons commonly like to collect destructive and corrupting materials, whether radioactive items, weapons or spells. They have also been known to keep undead creatures as things to study.
