Direwold

Set in the grassy hills of Vandenburgenrijkka, is a prosperous city of middling size. The locals are, for the most part, extremely local. They prize the blood garlic from nearby Frampt as a delicacy and they sell much produce to the neighbouring areas as a result. Indeed, the Direwold sausage is a thing to be beheld. Due to the proximity to Demonspire and the Mountains of Doom, many adventurers have chosen to settle here once the road gets too much for them.     This is largely because most bards are too timid to venture nearby to places called the like of “Demonspire” or “the Mountains of Doom.” These names were in fact concocted by one of the first adventurers to settle here in order to keep away a persistent lover and her husband.     As well as dealing in livestock and their produce, the people here are known to dabble in the production of a fruit based beverage which has a highly intoxicating effect, or can be used to polish brass. The recipe is a closely guarded secret, but those who have paid interest believe that the cold winter nights here may play a part in it’s production.     Unsurprisingly, there is little in the way of crime in Direwold. The people are industrious and hard working, and keenly aware of the number of burly and lawful ex-adventurers in their midst. One could imagine that over time, those given to dishonesty or brigandage would have looked for a life elsewhere or come to a sticky end.     The city is governed by the Mater. The matriarch of the Jaquelot family, Mater discards her birth name on ascending to the Seat of Governance and all records of it are stripped. To refer to Mater by any name other than Mater is considered a crime akin to treason, with overtones of heresy. Nobody can recall how this tradition came to pass. And enquiries are discouraged by the other members of the Jaquelot family.

Guilds and Factions

History

Founded in 689 ASW by a group of Adventurer's looking for a place to retire. Finding an isolated plateau, far from the ever-present threat of the Gloomwood , the rampaging Orc hordes of the Scourge, and the restless dead of the Weeping Woods, the party claimed the place for themselves. They named the mountain range the Mountains of Doom in an attempt to ward off trouble makers and their fans. Soon, other adventurers gravitated towards the camp and the population grew. The adventurers were all fairly wealthy, having spent their lives amassing loot and contract payments, and they continued to prosper.

Points of interest

Training Yard - Part practice yard, part arena. The Training Yard is a place to hone combat abilities and to earn some renown. Although true heroes go out and kill monsters instead of lounging around cities.
