Why couldn't they be nice toad things!?
General Summary
The fight continued. It was a hectic affair. Lil went down.
I gave everything I had in reserves to down a toad beast; I could see Graz and Zima doing their best to keep in position and rain down more spells and steel. Moments later I went down! I felt a sting of pain in my upper left arm and then everything went dark.
I awoke to Lil sighing at the loss of some of their arcane reserves they’d depleted to get me back on my feet. A look around the field, I saw the remaining toad beasts had been dispatched while I was out cold. Now out of danger I recounted to Lil the strike I’d landed with Mange Tout in the seconds before I fell.
Graz started up the triangle (such a soothing sound) and told us of the psychic onslaught she’d unleashed on one of the hostile toad things, making it believe it was drying out in harsh desert sun. If they weren’t the aggressors I would be slightly concerned at the remorseless tale. We all gathered around our captive and managed to get a few answers to our questions, but some were left unanswered when the toad broke free of its bonds and attacked us! Futilely of course; six against one.
Yes, six. Lil had created a grotesque ally for us; Bad Zombie a.k.a. DFS, and their fallen compatriot known now only as FDF. Who had fought most valiantly and survived, no mean feat for one of Lil’s experiments.
After an hour to catch our breaths and inspect our wounds we decided that Onwards was the only way to go. We followed the route the ‘king’ had escaped down.
We came to a serene scene of water, lily pads, and some rocky outcrops. Toad central?
Zima popped more shrooms than I could count into his young throat. I am quite worried about that one, they’ve been dosing like this ever since the gumdrop mountain incident. A flash of light later and we’re at the mouth of a slimy cave.
We soon came across some lily pads. I took the initiative and jumped to the closest. It held my weight. ‘Come on, follow the pads I jump to.’ Other than Graz I think we all slipped from at least one pad before reaching a small island packed with toads chanting.
‘A ritual to summon a god who goes by many names. One is Cuul.’
Again!? More demons and gods being summoned. Are these events connected with the whole Rile misadventure?
Luckily Graz is up front to deal with these cultists. Graz could sell lava to a fire Genasi. How long before they turn hostile? Mange Tout, be ready, your services may be required again this day.
