The Mater

The current Mater has ruled since 1198.

The city is governed by the Mater. The matriarch of the Jaquelot family, Mater discards her birth name on ascending to the Seat of Governance and all records of it are stripped. To refer to Mater by any name other than Mater is considered a crime akin to treason, with overtones of heresy. Nobody can recall how this tradition came to pass. And enquiries are discouraged by the other members of the Jaquelot family.
The current Mater has ruled since the last Mater went missing on a hunting trip and was presumed eaten by Direwolves.
Mater has ruled with compassion and a stern approach to law breakers. Under their rule, the city has prospered.
