Avlar's Conquest and Life
See the timeline of Avlar's Conquest
vlar, The God-King, is the most storied figure in Daënfel's history. The third son of House Dalmaska, a minor house of nobility in the city of Avalon, Avlar's ambition was second to none. He is remembered as an 'untameable' lad in his youth, often going off on his own through the city. Passersby recounted seeing the scrawny lad often scrumaging his way through the darker corners of the city and its surrounds, often being pursued by angry guardsmen or a disgruntled gnomish artisan. His father and two brothers tragically passed away in a housefire at the family's country manor. Raised by a single mother, he was the sole heir to the Dalmaska line. Through his mother's tutelage, he became adept at Avalon's politics at an early age. At 17, through a series of marriages and political events that aren't well documented, Avlar was crowned king of Avalon. Major shifts happened within the courts of this kingdom in the wake of this event, with alliances forged and a string of mysterious murders taking place over the course of a few years. At 22 he began his subjugation of the continent, starting with the city of Trinity. Seeds had been planted years prior, which led him to take control of the city's nobility through 'diplomatic' means, extending the kingdom of Avalon to the lands which encompass what is known as Avlar's Folly today. By 25 he had begun a full scale assault of the continent by marching his troops through the great wall at the southern end of Avlar's Folly into the great Kingdom of Eá-galwen. Wallsend fell first, with no option being given for their surrender. Whimbrel, the ancestral home of House Wayland, fell soon after with minimal resistance, and a military base set up there. Lord Roland Wayland, King of Eá-galwen and the most powerful man in Daënfel, strove for peace. He attempted to parley with Avlar and his forces, however this was viewed as a sign of weakness by the nobles of his court and the generals of his army - leaders who had known nothing but peace-time. The kingdom was divided, and when the first calls for peace were denied by Avlar the Galweni nobles broke off with their banners and marched to meet the forces of Avalon in open battle. The months after this are some of the most storied in history and represent one of the most sorrowful chapters of Daënfel. The Galweni armies underestimated their foe and were annihilated by the magics of Avlar and the wonders of Avalon in open warfare. Lord Roland Wayland, wanting to avoid the destruction of his people and their homes, invited Avlar and his generals to Carrag Nuine and unconditionally surrendered. As he bent the knee and proffered the crown of his people, his head was cleaved in two by Avlar himself, and the sacking of Carrag Nuine began. With the kingdom in disarray and leaderless, Avlar's forces quickly seized control of Sage's Rest and Crater Cove. The people of Port Montague, outraged by the events in the capital, resisted Avlar's forces. A blockade was established around the city from both sea and land, and a series of naval skirmishes took place in the bay outside the city. With the The Kingdom of Eá-galwen lying in ruins, Avlar's forces stretched out over the course of the next year, leading to the surrender of Dol Gadmen. Conflict with the Northmen past the Rosewall took place, and after a series of skirmishes the Unbound Lands too bent the knee in the face of destruction. Over the course of the year 997, The Gods Willow on the Isle of Ban Elsir was also burnt down and Port Montague was finally broken After this time, the location of Avlar is unknown. The soon-to-be-Emperor of all in this world left his armies and disappeared, not seen again until his ascension as the God-King of Death. In the third year of the conquest, Avlar's forces attempted to siege the city of Helias but broke at the gates a few months later under the desert heat. With little leadership or morale, Avlar's soldiers returned home to a city in ruins. Monsters now ruled Avalon, and the doors to The Maw opened, bringing a time of ruin to the people of Daënfel.
