Trinity, The Pearl of the Empire

rinity is the second-largest city of the Empire, located in Avlar's Folly amidst the ruins of the old kingdom of Avalon, briefly ruled over by Avlar, The God-King.   Trinity is the religious seat of the Empire. Within this storied city lies the battlefield of the Gods, as followers of The Avanís Pantheon vie for power and following within the city. With a God's power directly corresponding to the strength of their following, the city is continuously embroiled in theological debate, as clerics, priests and clergymen act as soldiers for their deities. Citizens of the city are not taxed, but instead are constantly embroiled in the payment of their faith to one god or another, with religious distinction being a huge part of the culture of the city and surrounding area.   Trinity is a very old city. Founded by one of the first groups to split from the once-great Kingdom of Eá-galwen, Trinity was settled by a collection of particularly ferverent nobles who's zealous worship of the Avanís saw them at odds with their neighbours. They settled northward, and soon declared their independence from their southern cousins. The 'Pearl of the North' the city was titled by its self-important rulers, who doubled down on this name when the great city of Avalon was founded and quickly rose to prominence due to the otherwordly ingenuity of its gnomish artisans and craftsmen.   Trinity is now ruled by the Founding Fathers, who came to prominence in the wake of Avlar's ascension and the dawning of the new Empire. Led by a council of Prelates - one for each of the gods in the Pantheon - and an elected 'High Prelate', the Founding Fathers honour tradition, the gods, and perpetuate the constant conflict within the city. While the city is constantly embroiled in this religious warfare, the Fathers are quick to unite against a common foe that threatens their dance for power, as some groups have been quick to find out.   With this focus on faith, the area has brewed much of the extremist tension that works against the Pantheon across Daënfel. The Forsaken are a group of separatists comprised mostly of orcs, which conduct guerilla warfare operations against the Founding Father and pantheon at large. The Sons of Avlar are a historic cult of the region which strove for Avlar's domination of the pantheon, and were swiftly put down after a series of explosions were set off in the capital, meeting their end in the city of Wallsend over a century ago.   The position of High Prelate is currently vacant, as the previous High Prelate, Lavernis of the Astronomer, was assassinated in a public demonstration, where he began to laugh so uncontrollably that he succumbed to the effect. Before his death, the High Prelate was known for his many divinations, some speaking of an Age of Prophecy to come to this world.   Na'thaniel, Commander of the Trinity Guard currently holds the city secure while the clergy play politics over the successor. Rumour has it that the innfighting has grown quite extreme in the months since his death, however the most intense of the debates have been held behind closed doors.   Trinity is surrounded by verdant forests and woodlands, which it capitalizes with an expansive logging trade. It also dominates the Empire in terms of access to ores and precious metals such as gold and silver, from the River of the Ancients that flows from the Lower Rhakhis mountain range past deserted orcish holds into the forests and valleys of the region. Most importantly however, the Founding Fathers often fund expeditions into Avalon, The Lost City for ancient riches, treasures and magical artifacts from its heyday.
