River of the Ancients

This short, lightning bolt shaped river runs from the western side of the Lower Rhakhis shooting straight out to sea. On its southern bank near the coast lies the city of Trinity, the Pearl of the Empire.
This river is one of the natural marvels of the Empire - its shores lined with some of the oldest structures and ruins in the world. Marbles statues and columns can be found amongst the weed and mud of the river bottom. The reeds along its banks choke old wharfs, jetties and homesteads, all from a time long before the Empire.
The river has a high level of mineral content, carrying gold aplenty from the mountain streams.
These days, the western half of the river is home to the estates of the rich and powerful of Trinity, their holy shrines decorating repurposed marble manors, each more decadent than the last. The western half of the river is dominated by ore mines and gold panners, looking for the next score.
At night, fables tell of how a traveller might see the golden starlight shining from the river's floor when the moon is at its fullest.
