The Maw

Two colossal doors stand hundreds of feet tall, made from an unknown material not found anywhere else in Daënfel. Upon their huge surface are thousands of intricate inscriptions and patterns, said to be put there by The Mason.
Once such enscription is scribed many times in every language known to the people of Daënfel. A message: "Timete tenebras" - Fear the Darkness.
This ancient gateway scars the otherwise pristine valley in which the capital of Hope resides, and can distantly be seen from the city's tallest towers.
The doors were once sealed, and were thought to be created by the Gods to ward this world from the Darkness within the corpe of their fallen foe, the Titan.
Some time after Avlar ascended, the doors were breached by the unspeakable horrors that lie on the other side, and monsters swarmed the people of Daënfel. Now that the doors are open, the citizens tell stories of what lies beyond - the dark heart of this world.
The doorway is guarded by the Empire's most elite soldiers, some sworn directly to the Emperor and others being knightly orders such as The Eclipse Knights who are constantly barraged with assaults from hordes of bloodthirsty creatures attempting to breach the defenses and lay waste to the world.
